Skein Slayers Knitting/
Crocheting Group
Sponsored by the Vernonia
Prevention Coalition, the Kiwanis
and community volunteers, Skein
Slayers is a knitting/crocheting
group whose goals are to invite
people of all ages who can knit
or crochet or just want to hang
out and talk on the second and
fourth Mondays at 6:00 PM. The
hope is that this will become a
multi-generational group that talks
about whatever the hot topics are,
particularly teens, and knit or crochet
hats and scarves for our students
in need and for the Community
Closet. We’ll have topics that we’ll
talk about each night and a table of
supporting materials for the topic;
i.e. suicide prevention, bullying, etc.
Flyers will be posted around town.
Join us Monday, February 28, 6:00
PM. Contact: Catherine Helmer,

Readers Lend Their Voices...
Many of you have heard around
the community that Dr. Gilmore is
retiring. The health board was notified
by Providence that the retirement date
will be March 4, 2011. We would like
to take this opportunity to thank her
for her dedication to this community
which was abundantly apparent during
the flood of 2007 and the sacrifices
she made to continue medical services
during and after that disaster.
As stated in our previous letter,
we were hoping to have information
whether our new partnership was
approved by the end of 2010.
Unfortunately, the Federal Government
has informed this board that the date
of notification has been extended to
August of 2011.
We are happy to inform you that
we had a successful meeting between
our new potential partner Coastal Family
Health Center and our current partner
Providence Health & Services to ensure
continuity of care during this time of
transition. An arrangement was agreed
upon by all parties to ensure adequate
staffing in continuing to provide this
community quality services.
You will probably notice some
new faces at the medical center as the
transition unfolds. There are currently
