Linear Trail To Be Completed To Banks
Celebration Scheduled for October 29th

The Banks-Vernonia Linear
Trail is scheduled to be completed this
fall with the development of a new trail-
head in the City of Banks.

The trail is being extended the
last half mile into Banks and will in-
clude one brand new bridge through the
new section. The trail will terminate (or
start, depending on your perspective) at
the new trailhead, at the intersection of
Sellers and Banks Roads near Highway
47.

The new trailhead will include
twenty-seven parking spaces, a rest-
room, an informational kiosk and three
horse corrals.

“This has been long awaited
since we began developing the trail back
in the early 90’s,” said Dan Lucus, Park
Manager at LL Stub Stewart State Park,
who is also responsible for management
of the Banks-Vernonia Trail. “It is excit-
ing to get this piece of the trail done-- it’s
been a major undertaking.”

Lucas was also excited to an-
nounce that the last stretch of Banks-
Vernonia Trail is being paved this fall.

“We’re realigning the trail and
putting in some switchbacks to
reduce the steepness of those
grades on the parts that come
down to Highway 47,” said Lu-
cas.

The new trailhead has
been a partnership between
Washington County, the City of
Banks and Oregon State Parks.
According to Lucas, there was
some realignment work of
streets at the intersection that
was part of the construction of
the trailhead. The Banks Road
railroad crossing also had to be
