Muffy’s: These Shoes (and Boots) Are Made For Walking

And they have a new item, baby booties that
are being hand-crocheted by a local Vernonian, Linda
Clark. She is making the booties in a saddle shoe de-
sign and is working on tiny crocheted cowboy boots.

thing
Muffy’s doesn’t
carry yet are

boots.

ging business
comes back,
we’ll
carry
those too,” says
Allen.
Muffy’s continues to do a lot of mail-order
business from their website. They have supplied shoes
for numerous Hollywood and Broadway productions,
and even have on display a pair of their saddle shoes
that Reese Witherspoon wore in the film, Pleasantville.
The inside of the shop, a work in progress ac-
cording to Muffy, is a mix between a retail outlet and
a museum. Allen and Muffy have collected anything
and everything related to saddle shoes-- from posters,
to photographs of celebrities wearing the famous black
and whites,
to Barbie
dolls from
the fifties
sporting sad-
dle shoes.
Allen and
Muffy even
have a pair
of saddle
shoes that
were owned
and worn
by Marilyn
M o n r o e ,
although that collectible is kept locked up in a safe.
“The building was vacant for about twenty years,” says
Muffy. “When we moved in, it didn’t have heat or elec-
tricity. So it’s definitely been a big project. And this lo-
cation has just worked out
so beautifully for us. We
love being in downtown

Muffy and Allen also own a huge collection of
vintage clothing that will hopefully find its way out on
display sometime in the future.
Muffy’s has somewhat limited hours. They
plan to be open on Friday and Saturday afternoons, but
they are usually in the storeroom filling mail orders
most afternoons. Both Allen and Muffy are well versed
in the art of shoe sales, so they will be sure to help you
find what you need. “If the door is unlocked, we’re
open,” says Muffy. “And if someone needs something,
they should call. We’re always happy to open up for a
customer.”
