Kelan Mark Busch
Kelan Mark Busch was born on Janu-
ary 17, 2010 to parents Jared and Katie
Busch. He weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces
and measured 20 inches. Grandparents
are Jim and Barb Prpich of Vernonia;
Clarissa Kisic of Jackson, NC. Great
Grandparents are Fred and Phylis Busch
of Mist; Don and Rose Dunaway
of Beaverton. Kelan is Jared and Katie’s
first child.

BARBARA “BONNIE” (SUTHER-
LAND) MAC BEAN
BARBARA
“BONNIE”
(SUTHERLAND) MAC BEAN,  age 
60, a resident of the Damascus commu-
nity, died on Tuesday,  January 19, 2010 
at  the  home  of  a  best  friend  in  Forest 
Grove, Oregon.  No services will be held 
at her request.
BONNIE S. MAC BEAN, was 
born on December 27, 1949 in Philadel-
phia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Nor-
man Dean, Jr. and Jeanne (Allerton) Mac 
Bean.
 
Bonnie  worked  as  deli  clerk 
then  later  as  a  cashier  at  the  Damascus 
Safeway  from  1992  to  1996  and  then 
worked in administration for New Zea-
land Fence Company in Clackamas. She 
also worked at the Dollar Tree during the 
2008 / 2009 holiday season.
 
Survivors  include  her  compan-
ion, Tom Jeremia of Damascus, Oregon 
and two brothers, Sammie Love and Don 
Mac Bean and by one sister, Wendy Ol-
stad.

EDWARD ALLEN PETERS,
 
EDWARD  ALLEN  PETERS, 
age  74,  a  resident  of  the  Forest  Grove 
community,  died  of  causes  related  to  a 
pedestrian  accident  on  Friday,  January 
15, 2010 in Forest Grove, Oregon.
 
A public service will be held in 
Garibaldi  on  February  6 th   at  a  location 
and  time  to  be  announced  later  on  the 
funeral home website.
EDWARD ALLEN PETERS was born 
on July 5, 1935 in Portland, Oregon, the 
son  of  Clayton  and  Kathryn  (McKee) 
Peters. His early education was in the St. 
Johns area of Portland before the family 
moved to Garibaldi, Oregon. In 1954 he 
graduated  from  Garibaldi  High  School 
and  then  served  in  the  United  States 
Army  in  the  Seventh  Calvary  until  his 
discharge in 1957.  He married Elspbeth 
Jean  Swannie  and  they  later  divorced. 
He  worked  as  an  engineer  for  North-
west  Natural  Gas  Company  while  rais-
ing a family, first living in Lake Oswego, 
then Stafford and Salem. He worked at 
Northwest  Natural  Gas  for  thirty-five 
years before retiring in 1993.
 
He  was  a  past  Toastmaster  and 
was  an  artist  and  enjoyed  doing  wood 
carvings  and  glass  etching.  Another  of 
his favorite pastimes was playing chess.
 
The  family  suggests  remem-
brances  to  Oregon  Public  Broadcasting 
at 7140 SW Macadam Avenue, Portland, 
Oregon 97219 in his memory.
 
Survivors  include  his  children, 
Victoria Peters of Vernonia, Oregon, Bill 
Peters of Garibaldi, Oregon and Valerie 
Peters of Rockaway Beach, Oregon. He 
is also survived by his sister and brother-
in-law, RaeAnne and Kenneth Logue of 
Sheridan,  Oregon  and  three  grand-chil-
dren,  John,  Dannette  and  Brandon  and 
two great grand-children, Caleb and Al-
lie and one Nephew and his wife, Shawn 
and Amy Logue and a large and loving 
extended family.

NELLIE E. TIPTON
 
Nellie  E.  Tipton,  93,  a  former 
resident of the Vernonia community, late 
of Dallas, Oregon, died Saturday morn-
ing, January 23, 2010 at the Dallas Re-
tirement Village.
 
A  Celebration  of  Life  Service 
was held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 
at 11:00 A.M. at the Vernonia Commu-
nity Church, 957 State Street, in Verno-
nia,  with  Pastor  John  J.  Cahill,  pastor 
emeritus  of  the  Vernonia  First  Baptist 
Church,  officiating.  Concluding  Rites 
and Interment  followed at the Vernonia 
Memorial Cemetery, 2080 Bridge Street 
in Vernonia, Oregon.
 
Family and friends were invited 
to  attend  a  reception  immediately  fol-
lowing the cemetery rites, in the fellow-
ship room of the church. 
           NELLIE ELAINE TIPTON was 
born  August  15, 
1916 in Texhoma, 
Oklahoma,  the 
daughter  of  the 
late John W. Shel-
den and Julia Ann 
(Davis)  Shelden. 
She  was  raised 
and  received  her 
education  in  Sey-
mour, Missouri. 
            She mar-
ried  her  child-
hood  sweetheart, 
Thomas 
Ervin 
Good  on  Novem-
ber  10,  1935  in  Seymour,  Missouri.  
They  had  one  daughter,  Marylyn,  and 
then  divorced  in  1943.    She  and  her 
daughter moved to Payette, Idaho to be 
with  her  parents.    It  was  there  that  she 
met Ed Tipton.
 
She  was  united  in  marriage  to 
Reuben Edward “Ed” Tipton on July 19, 
1944 in Payette, Idaho. Following their 
marriage  they  moved  to  Vernonia,  Or-
egon in 1944, where she made her home 
for fifty-four years.
 
Nellie was preceded in death by 
her husband, Ed, on December 11, 1982 
at  Hillsboro,  Oregon,  after  celebrating 
over  thirty  eight  years  of  marriage  to-
gether.
 
In  1998,  she  moved  to  Dallas, 
Oregon to be near her daughter and son-
in-law.    She  had  made  her  home  at  the 
Dallas Retirement Village for the past 3 
years, until recently when she moved to 
an Adult Foster Home next door to her 
daughter.
 
Nellie had worked as a clerk for 
Safeway  Stores,  for  Bob  Curl,  Deans 
Market and the Variety Store, until 1968 
when she retired.  After Ed’s death she 
became  an  active  member  of  the  Ver-
nonia Senior Center and eventually be-
came  the  bookkeeper  for  the  Nutrition

program,  a  position  she  held  for  many 
years.
 
Among her special interests she 
enjoyed  quilting,  gardening,  reading, 
her grandchildren and the neighborhood 
kids.
            Nellie was also preceded in death 
by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, 
a step-son, a step-daughter,  a grandson 
and a great granddaughter.
            Survivors include  a daughter and 
son-in-law,  Marylyn  and  Dick  May  of 
Dallas; daughter-in-law, Billie Tipton, of  
Dallas;    step-daughter,  Lorella  Vice  of 
North Plains; a sister, Gladys Anarde of 
Renton, Washington and a brother, John 
Shelden of Gray Court, South Carolina.      
 
Also  surviving 
are ten grandchildren, 
21  great-grandchil-
dren,  several  great-
great-grandchildren 
and  many  nieces  and 
nephews.
 
The 
family
