16 community january 5 2010 Walk and Talk for 2009 Jack Lindsley, Richard Meyer and Dewey Deweber have been walking the streets of Vernonia for the past few years talking with residents, business owners and visitors, as well as taking prayer requests from people they meet during what they call their “Walk and Talk”. The following is a report from what is often refered to as Vernonia’s “God Squad”. In this year, we received prayer requests from 1942 people that represent around 2500 prayer needs. We have around 60 people that join us in praying for these needs scat- tered all around our state and nation. We prayed for healings, no flooding in 2009, improvements to busi- nesses, healthy babies, safety for our soldiers and policemen, school funding, and God’s leading for a VPC Director, City Administrator, a new Police Chief Scouting for Food Benefits Vernonia Cares and many more needs. We believe God gave us very good people to fill those va- cancies. We prayed Tommy Carr through a life-threatening accident and he is strong and healthy now. We prayed a 3-pound baby through many challenges and she is doing great. We prayed with Ron Welch through a bout of cancer and he is well and ornery now. We saw God help Wayne Williams and Betty Holsey through their strokes and they are doing well. Tiffany Carr received a healing, as Cub Scout Pack #201 canvassed Vernonia on December 12, 2009, and gathered 1612 pounds of food for Vernonia Cares Food Bank (VCFB). Food Bank Vice President Dave Howard, who also volunteers at the food bank and helps stock the pantry shelves, said, “This couldn’t have come at a better time! Vernonia Cares assisted over 450 people in November, 2009. Our shelves were looking pretty bare before this food drive. Thanks, Scouts, parents, and Vernonia donors!” VCFB Director Sandy Welch added, “Vernonia is a giving community. It seems like during difficult economic times, Vernonians give even more generously and sacrificially. This year’s total yield was 650 poiunds more than last year. The awesome response shows that Vernonia cares!” Welch concludes. well as many others. We look forward to seeing you on the streets of Vernonia and welcome your requests and phone calls if you have a need we can lift up with you. God is good and will always hear the prayers, but, being God, he will answer as He sees fit.
