Vernonia Dance Center Presents “The Nutcracker”
The Vernonia Dance Center, under the Direction of Jessica Davis will once again pres-
ent their version of “The Nutcracker” this Holiday season. On December 4th at 7:00 Pm at
the Vernonia Community Church, Sarah Wagner will portray the Nutcracker, Macayla Adams
will take the role of Marie and Nicole Glass will dance as the Sugarplum Fairy. Admission is
by donations--all proceeds will go to defray the cost of costumes.
Lighted Parade and Tree Lighting-Parade Route Changed
Vernonia Pride’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Lighted Parade will be held on
Saturday December 5th starting at 6:00 PM. The Parade has had a change in its planned route
and will form on State Avenue, proceed through town on Bridge Street, ending on Weed Av-
enue. Vernonia Pride asks that all participants refrain from throwing anything to the spectators,
such as candy, toys, etc. Because of the parade being at night, they feel it is too dangerous for
the kids to be darting out in the street. Santa will be giving out candy at City Hall after the
parade.
There will be no ATV’s allowed in this year’s parade. One trophy for the best entry
will be awarded.
So dig out your Christmas lights and make this the best Christmas Parade ever!
204th Army Band to Perform in Vernonia
The 204th Army Band, of the Washington State Army Reserves, will be performing a concert
at the Vernonia High School Auditorium at 7:00 PM, after the Lighted Parade and Community
Tree Lighting. Music will include holiday songs, marches, and classical band literature. You
must have a ticket to get in, but the tickets are FREE, and can be picked up at the District
Office, Sentry Market, Creatures Pet and Flowers, and Black Bear Cafe. Vernonia Band in-
structor Rob Izzet is a member of the 204th Washington State Army Reserves serves both as
trombonist andrehearsal conductor.
Girl Scout Fundraiser
The Vernonia Girl Scouts will once again be pre-selling flowering, potted tulips and
hyacinths from VanderZanden Farms as a fundraiser for their spring camping trip. All Girl
Scouts will be selling them from December 1 st 2009 through January 8, 2010 for pick-up from
the school near Valentine’s Day. This is a great way to support scouts while getting fresh flow-
ers for a loved one. Remember, the bulbs can be planted in your yard and enjoyed for many
years to come. The cost will be $6 per pot. Orders can be placed with any girl scout as well as
at the Vernonia Christmas Bazaar. For further information on Girl Scouts or to place an order

VHS Seniors Hold Rummage Sale
Vernonia High School seniors are having a rummage sale to raise their own funds for
their Senior Graduation Trip. Mark December 12 - 13, 2009 on your calendars. Each student
will have their own table. Some kids do not have much to sell so they could use your help with
donations. Donated items will be distributed evenly at the sale. Maybe you can do your spring
cleaning early this year--start getting rid of the “extra” stuff from last year to make room for
Christmas. Please pack up your extra household items or clothes. An adult in charge will be
happy to come pick up your donation of any size!! To make a donation Call Kari at Washing-

don’t forget to stop by the sale and help the students raise money for their trip!

The Evergreen Brass Quintet will be erforming Friday, December 11, 7:30 PM at the
