Katie Ann Roberts and Kevin Jonathan DeLemos together
with their parents are please to announce their marriage.
The ceremony was preformed Saturday, September 19,
2009 on Gearhart Beach. The couple makes their home
in Vernonia.
Rice Graduates
Caleb Rice, VHS Class of 2009, graduated from Navy Ba-
sic Training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes,
IL., on Friday September 18th. He was the Master-at-
Arms (RMAA)(RP01) of Division 328. His next duty
station is set for Norfolk, Virginia for his A school of ap-
proximately 16 weeks.

GENEVIEVE H. “GINETTE” HEPLER
Genevieve H. “Ginette” Hepler, 86, a former long-
time resident of the Vernonia community, late of Portland,
Oregon, died Wednesday evening, September 15, 2008 at
the Regency Park Assisted Living Center
in
Portland,
Oregon.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held on Tues-
day, September 22, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. with a Concelebrated
Funeral Mass to follow on Wednesday, September 23, 2009
at 11:00 A.M., both held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
960 Missouri Avenue in Vernonia, Oregon with Fr. Ronald
Millican, of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Portland and
Fr. Luan Tran, of St. Mary’s Parish and, co-celebrants. As-
sisting will be Judy Budge and Juanita Dennis. Burial Rites
and Interment followed at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery,
2080 Bridge Street in Vernonia, Oregon.
Family and friends were invited to attend a recep-
tion immediately following the Mass, to be held in the Par-
ish Hall.
GENEVIEVE HENRIETTE “GINETTE” HE-
PLER was born September 15, 1923 in Verdun, Meuse,
France, the first child of the late Angelo Joseph and Gabri-
elle (Demange) Albizzati. She was raised and received her
education in Verdun, where she graduated from the Ville
Haute High School. She later attended beauty school in
Nancy, France.
Ginette immigrated to Canby, Oregon in 1948
where she lived for two years.
She was united in marriage to LaRoy Herman He-
pler on May 25, 1950 in Canby, Oregon. Following their
marriage they made their home in Molalla until 1964 when
they moved to the Vernonia community.
Ginette was preceded in death by her husband,
LaRoy, on July 29, 2004 at Portland, Oregon, after celebrat-
ing over fifty-four years of marriage together. She continued
living in the Vernonia community until she moved to the Re-
gency Park Assisted Living Center in Portland, where she
had resided since.
She was a homemaker, raising their three children
and working for a few years as a clerk in a clothing store until
their departure from Molalla. Ginette was a lifelong member
of the Catholic Church. An active member of the St. Mary’s
Parish in Vernonia, she served on the board for several years
and also took communion to the sick. For the past twenty-
five years, she was active in the making of quilts for the St.
Mary’s annual quilt fair. Among her special interests, Ginette
enjoyed knitting, embroidery, quilting, traveling and p l a y -
ing cards.
Survivors include one daughter, Terry Strehlou, two
sons, Bruce Hepler and Eric Hepler, eight grandchildren and
three great grandchildren.
The family suggests that remembrances may be
contributions to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 960 Mis-
souri Avenue, Vernonia, Oregon 97064, or the Alzheimer’s
Association, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland,
Oregon, 97209, in her memory.

MYRA B. BASKA “MRS. B”
Myra B. Baska, 98, a longtime resident of the Ver-
nonia Community, died Friday morning, September
18, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Rainier, Oregon.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service were held on
Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Vernonia
Community Church, 957 State Avenue in Vernonia, Oregon,
with John Cahill retired pastor of the First Baptist Church in
Vernonia, officiating. Family and friends were invited to at-
tend a reception immediately following the church ceremony.

MYRA
BERNICE
BASKA was born Janu-
ary 21, 1911 in Donny-
brook, North Dakota,
the sixth of fifteen chil-
dren, of the late Harry
Graff and Altha (Story)
Graff. She was raised
on the family homestead
farm in Donnybrook,
and attended White
Ash School and later attended the Donnybrook High School.
She was united in marriage to Frank Dinger on January 22,
1934 in Minot, North Dakota. Following their marriage they
resided on a farm in Grano, North Dakota. To this union, six
children were born, Delores, Pat, Fran, Jerry, Carol and Gary.
Frank passed away in 1944, after celebrating over ten years
of marriage. After his death, Myra took care of the farm, rid-
ing her horse to round up the cows. She also took care of
the sheep and remembers one farm task, churning the butter.
In 1948, she was united in marriage to Earl Baska in Mon-
tana. Following their marriage they lived in Mohall, North
Dakota where Judy and Gene were born. In 1956, they
moved to Vernonia, Oregon. They made their home in Ver-
nonia until 1972, when they moved to the Cornelius com-
munity. Earl preceded her in death in 1976, after celebrating
over twenty-eight years of marriage. Myra returned to the
Vernonia community in 1976, and had resided there since.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Verno-
nia and a member of several bowling leagues in Vernonia
and at the Triangle Bowling Lanes in Longview, Wash-
ington. Myra had bowled from the age of fifty through
the age of ninety, when she rolled the first ball to start the
Washington State Tournament in Longview, Washington.
Among her special interests she enjoyed gardening, caring
for her flowers, card playing and yahtzee. She also enjoyed
playing the piano, oil painting, especially landscapes and sing-
ing to her grandchildren.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents, by her five sisters,
Mildred Mandt, Mabel Coburn, Marjorie Thompson, Marion
Erickson and Marlyn Jacobson; her five brothers, Robert Graff,
Burton Graff, Leslie Graff, Harold Graff and Happy Graff; by her
granddaughter, Lisa Fletcher and her grandson, Robbie Baska.
Survivors include her eight children and their spouses, De-
lores Fowler, of Vernonia, Oregon; Pat and Chuck Simonson,
of Prineville, Oregon; Fran and Dan Fletcher, of Vernonia, Or-
egon; Jerry and Alison Dinger, of Vernonia, Oregon; Carol and
Ted Bodenhamer, of Rainier, Oregon; Gary Dinger, of Vernonia,

Oregon; Judy and Bruce White, of Clarksville, Tennessee and
Gene and Terri Baska, of Vernonia, Oregon; her brother, Gordon
Graff, of Gig Harbor, Washington; and her three sisters, Muriel
Neubauer, of Poulsbo, Washington; Mavis Henderson, of Dal-
ton, Minnesota and Marvel Sprouse, of Tacoma, Washington.
Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, twen-

great-grandchildren,

great-great
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

ALFRED R. “AL” IMAN, JR.
Alfred R. “Al” Iman, Jr., 66, a longtime resident of
the Vernonia community, died Thursday morning, September
17, 2009 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Port-
land, Oregon.

ALFRED ROLAND “AL” IMAN, JR. was born
February 27, 1943 in Oakland, California, the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Frank Iman, Sr. He was raised in Oakland,
until the age of five years old when he moved with his family
to Oregon, settling in the Rainier community, where he was
raised and received his education. Upon his high school gradu-
ation he attended college in California, where he received a
Bachelor of Science Degree as a Diesel Mechanic.
He was united in marriage to Bo H. Jung on August
19, 1979 in Ramona, California. Following their marriage they
resided in Escondido, California, until 1981 when they moved
to Oregon, settling in the Vernonia community, where they
have resided since. They celebrated their 30 th Wedding Anni-
versary this past August.
Al had worked as a Personal Body Guard for the Jef-
frey Clark Security Company in Portland for several years,
later as a diesel mechanic, then as a truck driver for Tri-State
Transportation Company, followed by owning and operating
a business as an independent driver. Most recently he worked
as a real estate developer with his son, Chuck, co-owning and
operating Autumn Sunset Homes.
Among his special interests he enjoyed hunting, fish-
ing, beer making and winemaking. Al also enjoyed being a
beekeeper and harvesting honey.
Survivors include his wife, Bo H. Iman, of the family
home in Vernonia, Oregon; his son and daughter-in-law, Glenn
W.C. “Chuck” and Jacinta Shelton, of Yelm, Washington; and
his daughter, April D. Iman, of Beaverton, Oregon.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Brian Chiat-
Ren Shelton and Crystal Ke-Ren Shelton, both of Yelm, Wash-
ington.
The family suggests that remembrances may be con-
