New Park
Playground Equipment
Washington Grade
School Field Day
WGS Students en-
joyed an afternoon
of fun activities like
tug-of-war, sack
races and waterbal-
loon tosses at the
end of their school
year
A new playground structure was installed at
Hawkins Park just in time for the start of
summer. The new structure was purchased
with Parks System Development Funds which
can be used to expand capacity of city facili-
ties. Looks like the new equipment is already
being put to good use.
Strand Rocks the Blue House
Graduations
Vernonia High School students weren’t the only ones who
celebrated a graduation last month. The Vernonia Middle
School promoted the Eighth Grade class of Toppers, who
will move onto become Loggers next year. The Vernonia
Head Start also sent this years class onto Kindergarten
with a ceremony complete with caps, gowns and tassels.
Strand, a local band that plays all
original music played at the Blue
House Cafe on Father’s day eve-
ning to a packed house. Members
Lynn Berry on bass, lead singer
Chris Sedlmeyer and Jerrid Sedl-
meyer on guitar, have been play-
ing together for years. Newcomer
Richard Harutunian recently
joined them on drums. The band
sounded great! Make sure to
check them out next time they play
in Vernonia.
