Lions Club to Hold Chocolate
Auction
Events Calendar
The Vernonia Lions Club is holding a Chocolate Auction at the Vernonia Senior
Center on Sunday February 8, at 2:00 PM. Bill Yeo will be the caller, and a BBQ
will be held outside, weather permitting. Available for bidding: homemade and
fancy items that have been purchased--all made from chocolate of course. “It’s
a great way to get a Valentine’s gift for your sweetie,” said Lions President Terry
Schaumburg. Proceeds will benefit the Lions work and support their donations in
the community.

Rummage Sale to Support VHS Band
VHS Band Rummage Sale – February 6 & 7, 8AM–3PM
Saturday and Sunday in the school cafeteria. Donations are needed – contact
Betsy at 429-6049 for storage of stuff. Proceeds benefit band programs including
the Disneyland trip scheduled for March.
The Vernonia High School Band is holding a rummage sale on Saturday and
Sunday February 6 and 7 8:00 AM-3:00 PM each day at the Vernonia School
Cafeteria Building. Good stuff, great prices. All proceeds benefit VHS Band
programs, including this years Disneyland Trip.
“Love Your Heart Day” Volkswalk
On February 14 there will be a 10 km Volkswalk starting at Tuality Health Education
Center—334 SE 8th Avenue, Hillsboro, and is held in conjunction with the Tuality
Health Education Center’s Health Heart Fair. Start time for the walk is between 8:00
AM and 1:00 PM-- finish by 4:00 PM. The walk will take you to a variety of places
and sites you may not have known about in Hillsboro, including Jackson Bottom
Wetlands Preserve. There will also be a 5Km (3.1 miles) option. The walks are
rated an easy 1 for difficulty by the American Volkssport Association and are free to
register-- $3 for those walking for AVA credit. Pets welcome on a leash. Sponsored

Support Vernonia Arts
First Friday (events that happen downtown on the First Friday of every month), Ver-
nonia Hands-On Art and other related groups are looking for interested participants.
Remember last summer’s Maypole Dance, art shows, demonstrations and evening
presentations at the Grange and various venues around town? Did you enjoy the
Scapegoat Burning or the Scavenger Hunt? How about the First Annual Vernonia
Dog Parade?

Please note that Friday, Feb 13th will be a school day. School Board added back
5 days of instruction due to all the missed snow days. The other days are: Friday,
May 22 and the year was extended 3 days to include June 10, 11, and 12.

Apprenticeship Programs in Building Trades Workshop, Friday March

Representatives from the Apprenticeship Coordinators Group of Oregon and
Southwest Washington will be presenting information about training programs
available in the building trades. They will cover such topics as; qualifications, re-
quirements, occupations available, and benefits. St. Helens High School Audito-

Spring is Coming- So Are Baseball
Sign ups
They say spring is coming; as I write this, however, there is still snow frozen to the
ground. As each day goes by, though, I know for a fact that it is coming. How can
I be so sure, you ask? For the last month, I have been putting together all that is
needed for our children to play Baseball. That’s right-- Youth Baseball, Youth Soft-
ball, and T-Ball signups are just around the corner. They are scheduled for February
5th and 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Vernonia High School Cafeteria. Last year
saw all of the baseball teams end the regular season with a winning record and one of
the teams went on to compete at the State Tournament. I would like to thank all the
coaches from last year for their hard work, along with all the parents who supported
the teams by showing up to cheer at the games and helping at the fundraisers we
held. We will be having our fundraisers later in the spring when I know for certain
that there will not be any snow left. Until then, I hope to see you and future players
at signups.

Jamboree Committee Forming
The next Vernonia Jamboree meeting is February 12 at 7:00 PM at Vernonia
Community Learning Center. Just remember in these hard economic times, may-
be a way to give is not with money, but with TIME.
Jamboree is looking to fill the following positions: President,Vice-President,
Secretary.
Also committee positions needed for garbage, advertising, signs and tee-shirts.
Jamboree needs a theme. Please submit your theme ideas by April 1. Submit by
email to: info@vernoniachamber.org or mail to Jamboree, 1001 Bridge St., Ver-
nonia OR 97064. The person’s theme who is chosen will win a $50 prize.
