VERNONIA’S
from the editor....
Any idea what’s with the weather? Some say it’s global warming -- if so, then
why are we freezing? Robb Wilson said that we haven’t had this much snow since
1979...or was it 1980? Regardless, we’ve had enough. Spring can begin any day
now -- and we’re ready! That darn groundhog needs to get a backbone already and
climb out of his hole.
Seriously though, First Friday’s are back, along with the annual St. Mary’s
Rummage sale and several volunteer cleanup activities signaling the first signs of
Spring in Vernonia.
There’s also a special volunteer project coming up soon for those of you who
are handy with a chainsaw...Vernonia should have quite the turn out for this event!
This Saturday, April 5, and again on April 19, volunteers are needed to cut logs to
be used as firewood for flood victims. (read more about it on page 5)
And I couldn’t agree more withe Councilman Parrow [see this month’s Let-
ter to the Editor], we are a community that survives (and benefits) on the selfless
service of volunteers. If everyone steps up and does their part it will make for a
more informed and stronger community.
“Vernonia in 2020” meetings kicked off this month. I attended my first one and
strongly recommend them. It was informative and great fun sitting around a table
getting to know citizens I had not yet
met. The next meeting is April 5.
This past month my son also real-
ized a childhood dream. He is taking
training as I write to become a volun-
teer Fireman for the City of Vernonia.
Yay Chad! And more are needed...any
takers?
Lastly, please mark your cal-
endars now for May 10, the annual
“Make Vernonia Shine Day,” the day
we set aside to shock and amaze the
outside world on our ability to come
together as a community to give our
town a good spring cleaning.
