Corrections
The following are corrections to items in the January 2008 issue of
Vernonia’s Voice:
• The article titled “Simmons Files for Sheriff” on page 7 was written by
Lorraine Churchill, not Scott Laird.
• The Waste water and Storm Water Assessment story reported on page
6 under City News took place at the Public Works Committee Meeting
on November 27, not the City Council Meeting.
• In Shirlee Daughtry’s letter to the editor, Ms. Daughtry wished to
thank Teresa Howes for her donation. Ms. Daughtry dictated her letter
by phone. We apologize to Ms. Howes for misspelling her last name.

This is to notify you that the City of Vernonia has proposed a land use
regulation that may affect the permissible uses of your property and
other properties.
Flood Plain Study Session
What: Study Session
Why: Discuss substantial damage related to the flood plain
When: February 4, 2008
Who: Planning Commission and City Council
Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance Public Hearing
What: Public Hearing
Why: Repealing Ordinance 725 and Adopting Ordinance 851 relating to the
enactment of a Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.
The City of Vernonia has proposed a land use regulation that may affect the
permissible uses of your property and other properties. It is a flood hazard
prevention ordinance that is being changed.
When: February 7, 2008 at 5:00 pm before the Planning Commission and
7:00 pm before City Council
Where: Community Church, Corner of ‘A’ and State St. Vernonia OR 97064
We are also looking for Volunteers who
would like to take on a director’s position in
any of the following areas: Registration, In-
formation booths, Parking, Busing, Vendors,
Soap Box Derby, Silent Auction, and Stage.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning Commission and City Council will conduct a
Public Hearing regarding the adoption of Ordinance Number 851. The City of Vernonia has
determined that adoption of this ordinance may affect the permissible uses of your property,
and other properties in the affected zone, and may change the value of your property.

The meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities. A request for an interpreter
for the hearing impaired or for other accommodations for persons with disabilities should be

The proposed ordinance, as well as a staff report will be available to the public at City Hall
for seven days before the hearing, and may be copied for a nominal fee. Public testimony
is welcome and written statements will be received before the hearing if you cannot attend.
