vernonia’s voice alumni october 2007 09 It’s Homecoming time at VHS: Time for some healthy competition! By Tammy Vanderzanden, VHS Alumnus Homecoming is an annu- al tradition at most high schools and colleges in the United States. It’s a time to welcome back for- mer residents and alumni, as well as a time for cur- rent students to show their school spirit. I’m sure many of you will never forget Homecom- ing week at VHS. For the girls, this was the much- anticipated “Mum” sea- son; when your best beau bought you the yellow mum corsage with the gold football dangling from it. It was a high- energy time… students were p s y c h e d … teachers were in good moods. For all, there were the crazy dress-up days, hall decora- tions, air jams, and serious sign competitions; “Knock Corbett into Orbit,” was one of our win- ning signs. And then there was Kangaroo Court, the flying pies… and the skits…the pictures speak for themselves! Some may remember the crazy serpentines down Bridge street, and let’s not forget the bonfire and how the senior class was in charge of guarding over it the nights before the game…lest anyone got a notion to light it early! This year the VHS Home- coming game is set for October 19, when the Logger’s play Warrenton. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. Gather your fellow class- mates, come cheer on the Loggers and reminisce about old times! How about a little friendly com- petition? Let’s see which class can round up the most alumni to attend the game. Let’s rock the grand stand. We look forward to seeing you later this month! GO LOGGERS!!
