Good clean fun for all. 5th Annual Vernonia Salmon Festival October 6 The 2007 Salmon Festival and the Knee Deep in Salmon fish auction will take place Saturday October 6th from 10am - 4pm at Hawkin’s Park in Vernonia. There will be numerous artistic salmon at auction, wine tasting, music, children’s games, and pumpkin carving. Chautauqua Program at the Vernonia Library 7 pm, October 15 “The Portland Trailblazers’ Championship Season: An Oregon Story”, a mixture of slides, lecture, oral histories, and audio and video clips presented by Matt Love. The title of the program is “The Portland Trailblazers’ Championship Season: An Oregon Story” The program will be presented by Matt Love. Mr. Love teaches English and Journalism at Taft High School in Lincoln City. He is the author of several books including Red Hot and Rollin’: A Retrospection of the Portland Trailblazers’ 1976-77 Championship Season. Matt Love mixes slides, lecture, oral his- tories and audio and video clips to illustrate why the story of the Blazers’ memorable 1976-77 season is one of the signature events in Oregon sports history. D Vernonia Library Presents Chautauqua Program The Oregon Chautauqua Programs are sponsored by the Oregon Council for the Human- ities. The programs cover art, literature, music and topics of interest. Libraries are allowed to request up to three pro- grams free of charge. This will be the first program for 2007- 2008. Chautauqua was a word used by some Native Ameri- cans to denote a gathering of the people for the purpose of disseminating information; they were used at a time when most history and knowledge was passed on orally.
