Helping Hands Project Lends Support

The Helping Hands
Project, a collaboration
of Vernonia community
members, is planning
their next project. Help-
ing Hands gets together
volunteers and local con-
tractors to assist those
in our community who
need help with home
repairs, renovations or
other household projects
that they are unable to
complete themselves.
“We reach out and help
people who need an
extra hand,” said project organizer Lisa Edgar who with her husband Ben,
helped start Helping Hands. “Originally Ron and Sandy Welch were the
organizers, but Ben and I have sort of taken over now,” said Lisa. “It is so
great to be able to assist these families and help make their lives better in
some small way.”
The next project is being planned for late July or early August and will
take place on a Saturday. Helping Hands is planning to work at Sue Jen-
kins’ house, painting inside, replacing a bathroom floor, landscaping the
yard, and putting in new flooring. Sue’s husband David recently passed
away, and Helping Hands hopes to give Sue and her family a new start in
their home.
The last Helping Hands Project had 48 volunteers show up to help. If you

An intimate group of about fifty people, mostly from out
of town, enjoyed Shimshai in concert at the Cedar Ridge
Retreat Center on July 7. Larry Steele and his wife Britt
welcomed guests with a vegetarian meal prior to the
evening concert, featuring the spiritually influenced
world music of Shimshai and his musical partners.
