Stamp Out Hunger food drive canceled due to coronavirus
Due to the coronavirus pandemic,
the Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out
Hunger Food Drive originally
scheduled for May 15 has been
canceled. The annual event is
sponsored by the National Asso-
ciation of Letter Carriers and is
the largest one-day food drive in
America. Instead, Stamp Out
Hunger asks union members to
donate to a food bank. Go to
nalc.org/food2; select your state;
choose a food bank in your area;
make a contribution. All collec-
tions stay in the local community.

Governor nominates union members
Several union figures were
among the 76 individuals ap-
pointed by Oregon Gov. Kate
Brown to state board and com-
missions, the governor’s office
announced April 15.
Michael Burch, community
relations representative for the
Pacific Northwest Regional
Council of Carpenters, was ap-
pointed to a four-year term on the
Oregon State Apprenticeship and
Training Council.
John Scanlan, a Pendleton
middle school language arts
teacher and board member of the
Oregon Education Association,
was appointed to a seat on the
Public Employees Retirement
Board, and Siobhan Martin,
deputy executive director of
Service Employees International
Union Local 503, was reap-
pointed.
The Oregon Senate Rules
Committee is scheduled to con-
sider the nominations the week
of May 10.
