Council installs new officers
Will Lukens (above, left), a business repre-
sentative of Machinists District Lodge
W24, was sworn in as executive secretary
treasurer of the Portland & Vicinity Metal
Trades Council Sept. 24 by President Pat
Christensen. Also taking the oath of oﬃce
as a new delegate was Phil Casciato (left),
business manager of Iron Workers Shop-
men’s Local 516. Local 516 is a new aﬃliate
of the council. Lukens succeeds Jason
Joeckel of Laborers Local 737, who re-
signed. The Metal Trades Council repre-
sents workers at the Portland Shipyards.

in Portland—for a life-
time of advocating for
women in the trades.
Ashbrook founded
Oregon Tradeswomen
Inc. (OTI) in 1989 and
was its executive direc-
tor until retiring in 2017.
OTI promotes success
for women in the trades
through education,
leadership, and mentor-
ship. Ashbrook was the
ﬁrst woman in Oregon
to become licensed as
an elevator mechanic.
