A cannery strike comes to life
It was one of the most remark-
able strikes of the 1980s: A
thousand frozen food workers
in Watsonville, California
struck for 18 months — and
won in an era of union-busting.
Now the story comes to the
stage in a play by Cherríe Mor-
aga, based on interviews she
conducted with residents of
Watsonville. Watsonville: Some
Place Not Here will have a
three-week run at Portland’s
Milagro Theater.
■ When: May 3-26, Thursdays through
Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m.
■ Where: Milagro Theatre, 525 SE Stark
Street, Portland
