Some pretty crummy video
went out on the Golf Channel in
mid-January, as managers
scrambled to operate cameras
and other equipment. But after
11 days, the 350 freelance
broadcast technicians repre-
sented by IATSE were back to
work with a new two-year con-
tract that the union said in-
creases employer health insur-
ance contributions and brings
wages “closer to industry stan-
dard rates.” IATSE credited
IBEW and NABET-CWA for
honoring picket lines.
Two local union-made TV
series premiere this month
The hit TV show Grimm ended
its sixth and final season last
year, but IATSE Local 488 re-
ports that local studio mechanics
have been keeping busy. Season
one of HBO’s new comedy-
drama series Here and Now
premieres Feb. 11. Starring Tim
Robbins and Holly Hunter, it’s
set in the Portland area (though
shot mostly in LA). And a brand
new Netflix series, Everything
Sucks, begins streaming Feb.
16. There’s more to come: Sea-
son 2 of the Netflix hit Ameri-
can Vandal is gearing up to film
in Portland.
