NW Credit Union
Association recognizes
IBEW’s Lee Duncan
Lee Duncan, a retired member of
IBEW Local 48, received the “Spirit of
Community” award from the North-
west Credit Union Association
(NWCUA). Duncan serves on the
board of directors of the IBEW and
United Workers Federal Credit Union.
The award annually recognizes a
credit union board member for their ef-
fort and commitment to supporting and
strengthening the lives of non-members
through community service and out-
reach programs.
NWCUA spotlighted Duncan’s
work as a co-founder and president of
the non-profit Unions for Kids. The or-
ganization has raised several hundred
thousand dollars for Doernbecher Chil-
dren’s Hospital through its annual Mo-
torcycle Poker Run and Chili Cook-off.
The award was announced June 7
during the Labor Appreciation Night
awards banquet sponsored by the
Northwest Oregon Labor Council. The
Northwest Credit Union Association’s
Directors’ Conference awards banquet
was held on the same night as the labor
awards dinner. Duncan attended the la-
bor awards dinner with his wife Kathy.
CORRECTIONS
An article in the June 6 issue, “Ore-
gon Historical Society exhibit features
first black-owned bakery,” incorrectly
reported the job title of Hurtis Mixon
Hadley, Sr. He worked for Albertsons
as a bakery manager and bakery trainer
for the Oregon division. Additionally,
when Milwaukie Pastry Kitchen
(which he owned and operated with his
wife, Dorothy Bishop Hadley) closed
in 1985, Hadley was hired by Safeway
as a bakery manager and later as bak-
ery store trainer for the Oregon divi-
sion.
Hadley is a retired member of Bak-
ers Local 114.
