Motorcycle poker
run set for June 14
The 12th annual Unions for Kids
Motorcycle Poker Run & Chili Cook-
off takes place Saturday, June 14.
Unions for Kids is a nonprofit, all-vol-
unteer organization established by
union members to raise money for Do-
ernbecher Children’s Hospital. To date,
$390,000 has been raised for the kids.
The 75-mile poker run starts and
finishes at the IBEW Local 48 Hall,
15937 NE Airport Way, Portland. Reg-
istration is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Entry
fee is $10. All poker hands must be re-
turned by 2:45 p.m. to be eligible to
win cash prizes.
A drawing for a Harley Davidson
motorcycle will be held at 4 p.m. Tick-
ets are still available.

Labor rally in
Longview June 21
LONGVIEW, Wash. — With so
many union locals in Southwest Wash-
ington entering into contract negotia-
tions this year with some of the areas
largest employers, the Cowlitz-Wahki-
akum Central Labor Council has de-
cided to hold a rally to build solidarity
and to inform the public.
The event will be held Saturday,
June 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Civic Cen-
ter Park in downtown Longview.
Some of the unions with contracts
expiring this year are the International
Longshore and Warehouse Union, In-
land Boatmen’s Union, the Association
of Western Pulp and Paperworkers,
Steelworkers, and United Food and
Commercial Workers.
