Portland Rising event
June 29 at Holladay Park
A coalition of unions and commu-
nity groups will gather Saturday, June
29, at Holladay Park across from Lloyd
Center to stand up for living wage jobs
and to show how federal, state, and local
austerity policies harm communities.
The gathering, sponsored by Port-
land Rising, a project of Portland Jobs
with Justice, begins at 10:30 a.m. and
ends at 1 p.m. The event will have a
carnival like atmosphere with signs,
banners, chants and street theater.
“A healthy city is a city with living
wage jobs; well-funded schools and
public services; clean and safe parks,
streets, and public transportation; and
affordable and accessible health care
and housing,” said said Karly Edwards,
executive director of Portland Jobs with
Justice. “Tragically, corporate and gov-
ernment policies have put the health of
our city at risk and few of us can avoid
the consequences.”
