Sheet Metal Workers #16 raises cash
for Willamette Valley cancer group
CRESWELL — Members of Sheet
Metal Workers Local 16 and their sig-
natory contractors raised $3,300 at a
golf fundraiser for the Mid-Willamette
Valley Chapter of Candlelighters for
Children With Cancer, a support group
for families affected by childhood can-
cer.
The inaugural Tin Knocker Scram-
ble Golf Tournament was held at Emer-
ald Valley Golf Club in Creswell. The
tournament was organized by the Sheet
Metal Workers Benefit Fund, a non-
profit organization newly created to
provide assistance to union members,
their families, and others in need.
FM Sheet Metal Inc. and the Sheet
Metal and Air Conditioning Contrac-
tors’ National Association-Columbia
Chapter sponsored the post tournament
banquet. Many contractors, local busi-
nesses, and individuals in the commu-
nity sponsored holes and carts and do-
nated prizes. The HVAC & Metals
Institute donated a flat screen television

son, Jordan, was diagnosed with
leukemia nine years ago, but is in full
remission. “Sheet Metal Workers are
the best,” said Thompson. “They al-
lowed me to stay home with Jordan
while Mike went to work.”
Support for the tournament was
very strong, Tillotson said. “The event
should continue to grow every year. It
was nice to see union sheet metal work-
ers and their industry partners give
back to the community.”
The second annual Tin Knocker
Scramble is already scheduled for Aug.
14 at Diamond Woods Golf Course in
Monroe.
