How many years have you been working at
West Linn? This is my sixth year.
What is it that you enjoy most about your
job? I work at West Linn only part time in
the evening. During the days I'm a freelance
illustrator working from home. It's nice to do
some physical work after sitting at a drafting
table most of the day. Also, since I'm alone
while working on art, it's good for me to get
out and work among other people.
What does your job entail exactly? I'm usu
ally responsible for the cleaning of the main
offices and front entryway.
What do you think students would be most
surprised to find out about you? I graduated
from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor
of Fine Arts in graphic design. Besides art, I
also do some modeling through a local agency.
I am an avid runner and also play guitar.
What’s the weirdest or grossest thing that’s
happened on this job ? Without going into
detail, the most gross and weird things occur
in the restrooms.
What did you do before you worked at West
Linn? I grew up in Portland and have been
a freelance illustrator there since the early
eighties. When the artwork slowed in 2002,1
found this job to supplement my income.
What's the best part of your job? The worst?
The funniest? It's certainly the cast of char
acters at the school and throughout the dis
trict that’s the best, worst and funniest part
of this job. Although not always pleasant, I
can usually step back and view it as quite
entertaining.
Funny story: As a side note, I always hoped
that there was some truth to the rumor that
a dog-sized rat once lurked in the lower por
tion of the now demolished south part of the
school. It was not to be. However, my intrigue
is now revived since it’s clear now that there
exists human sized rats here and in other
parts of this district!
