A fter w aiting nearly four
years for the fifth, The Order
o f the Phoenix, and tw o years
for the sixth Harry Potter
book, The Half-Blood Prince,
fans w ere not certain w hen
the seventh book w ould
surface. However, on Feb.
1, author J.K. Row ling
announced the final
installm ent release date:
July 21.
W ith the title's release
on Dec. 21, Deathly Hallows,
rum ors have been flying.
The sixth novel sold over 7.2
m illion copies ju st in 2005.
To put that in perspective,
The Half-Blood Prince sold
more copies in a day than
Da Vinci Code sold in one
year. The final book is
expected to sell even more.
W H Sm ith, a United
Kingdom based bookstore,
is said to have sold 13 copies
a second on the Saturday
that Half-Blood Prince was
released. This beat the
previous record of eight
copies a second, held by The
Order o f the Phoenix. Deathly
Hallows is expected to sm ash
previous H arry Potter
records.
Spoiler Warning:
A lthough the title w as
released a m ere two m onths
ago, plot rum ors have been
taking over the web since
th ^ ir s t person finished
t l R i x t h novel. From
M ugglenet to H arry Potter
Lexicon, from hook-ups to
death speculations, there
is no stopping the crazed
fans from deciphering the
m ost m eager aspects of each
novel, frantically trying to
find a hint to the conclusion
of this w orldw ide
phenom enon.
Before w e even get
started, let's debunk the
untrue rum ors about the
final installm ent. First of
all, D um bledore is dead.
The beloved character has
physically left the novel and
is not in hiding or com ing
back nor is D um bledore
related to Harry. H arry is
also not related to Salazar
Slytherin O R Voldemort
and N eville IS N O T the
son of Peter Pettigrew.
Petunia is not a Squib,
Crookshanks is not an
A nim agus, and the Sorting
H at is not a H orcrux. Lastly,
the prophecy does not in
any w ay refer to N eville
nor does H arry have to kill
Neville.
Luckily, there’s also a
long list of facts about the
seventh book
that
Row ling has revealed. The
last w ord in the seventh
book is scar. In fact, the last
chapter has already been
w ritten. It w raps up the
life of all of the characters
that are still alive. Also, two
people w ho Row ling did not
previously plan to die do in
the seventh book.
We w ill also be told
w ho R.A .B., the initials
found in the locket that
w as supposed to be a
H orcrux is. She w ill also
tell us som ething im portant
about Petunia D ursley as
w ell as Lily Potter. Dolores
U m bridge and Viktor Krum
return and w e’ll find out
w here Snape’s loyalties lie.
In the final installm ent,
H arry w ill visit G odric’s
Hollow, w here his parents
w ere m urdered. The two-
w ay m irrors that Sirius gave
him w ill also com e into play
again. However, there w ill
not be any more Q udditch
matches!
N ow that the truth and
lies have been verified,
w hat about the real rum ors?
A lthough the rum ors
fly from the practically
im possible to the utterly
absurd, there seem to be
three theories that persist.
The first theory is w hether
Snape is really good or evil.
A lthough the first
assum ption is that Snape is
evil, different possibilities
have been discussed. In
order to look at this from
all sides you have to keep
in m ind that w e know from
The Order o f the Phoenix
that both D um bledore and
Snape are highly skilled in
legim ens, the act of reading
som eone's mind.
The theory is that
D um bledore w as able to
tell Snape to m urder him
in order to save Malfoy.
A nother piece of evidence
supporting this theory is
D um bledore's attitude
toward Snape at that
m om ent. D um bledore
begged Snape to save his
life, a very uncharacteristic
action for D um bledore
w hich could have been
done to m ake Snape realize
D um bledore had m ore to
say.
A nother popular theory
is that R.A.B. is Regulus
Black. Row ling has said
that R.A.B. is not a new
character and he is the only
character m any people can
think of w ith those initials is
Black. It is also very peculiar
that Voldem ort murdered
Regulus him self. It is a
possibility that because
Black tried to stop
splitting his soul, Voldemort
found it w orthw hile to
m urder Black him self.
Black's m otives, however,
are not known.
The m ost controversial
theory is w hether Harry
is the seventh horcrux.
However, the evidence
against this theory is
substantial. One piece of
evidence is the prophecy
w hich clearly states that
either "m ust die at the hand
of the other." But if Harry
m ust die in order to kill
Voldemort, it is im possible
for the prophecy to be
fulfilled.
A nother piece of evidence
is that D um bledore
speculates that Voldemort
w as going to Godric's
H ollow to kill Harry, the
person w ho is supposed to
be able to kill Voldemort,
and then m ake his final
prophecy. However, w hen
Voldemort attem pts to
kill Harry, Voldemort
is basically dim inished
to nothing. That is w hy
Dum bledore speculates that
Frank Bryce w as murdered
in order to turn N agini into
a horcrux.
W ith theories overtaking
the internet, these are only
a few of the possible ones.
With this fam ous series
com ing to a close, frenzied
fan's speculations w on't stop
until July 21.
"W hile each of the
previous Potter books
has strong claim s on m y
affections, Deathly Hallows
is m y favorite, and that is
the m ost w onderful w ay to
finish the series," Row ling
said.

Despite the overabun-dance
of tanning salons, Starbucks
and self defense training cen
ters in West Linn; we haven't
managed to get a good teriyaki
restaurant until recently. Oh
Teriyaki opened its doors ear
lier this year in the strip mall on
Willamette Falls Drive, between
Walling Way and Fairview Way;
right next door to the Starbucks,
the tanning salon and the self-
defense training center.
The restaurant is owned lo
cally by the Oh family which
includes Halas, a senior, and
Irena, a junior.
"This place is like the Senior
Taco of teriyaki," Josh Halde-
man, patron and senior said.
"It's fairly cheap in comparison
to some of the other restaurant's
in town and I really like the
serving sizes."
As can be assumed by the
name, Oh Teriyaki serves a fare
heavily based on a theme of,
you guessed it, teriyaki. This
includes pork, chicken, beef,
vegetables and mixes of all four.
The chicken, in particular, is
of higher quality
than some of the lesser teriyaki
joints around the area and is,
dare I say, scrumptious. Each
dish is served with a selection
of sauces and rice.
The price ranges on meals
run between $5 and $10 with
most falling around the $7
mark. For the amount and
quality of food though, it is
well worth the gouge to the
wallet.
Unlike traditional places
that tend to serve Asian fare
which generally have closed
booths with low hanging lights,
Oh Teriyaki is set up with a
dozen or so high tables that let
you survey the entire restau
rant. It's very spacey with high
ceilings and wide windows that
let in a lot of natural light —if
its sunny out.
With fair prices, good quan
tities and excellent quality, Oh
Teriyaki is worth the trip, no
matter what part of West Linn
you hail from. Of course, if
you have no love for teriyaki,
this may be a place you want
to avoid, but after tasting the
quality of their fare, maybe Oh
Teriyaki can tempt your taste
buds.

Though retaining most
of the original cast, this
clunker used many sub-par
plot devices to progress its
redundant story.
Have you ever been
walking under a bridge and
seen an filthy man wrapped
in a burlap sack smelling
of fetid, rotten meat. That's
closest analogy we can come
up to describe the painfully
unfunny "Lion King 1 (1/2)."
The main plot was the
exploits of beloved secondary
characters Timon and Pumba
as they careen haphazardly
through the events of "The
Lion King." Again Disney
managed to wrangle in the
original film's stars Nathan
Lane, Matthew Broderick,
and Cheech
Marin (god
knows
how).
Speaking of animated
abominations, "The Land
Before Time" series has
spiraled out of control
within the last decade. First
released in 1988, the first
"The Land Before Time" was
a heartwarming tale about
one little dinosaurs journey
to a safe haven. Then in 1994
the first of many sequels was
released straight-to-video and
the nightmare began. Within
the last twelve years there
have been eleven movies
belonging to the series, this
is not counting the newest
release last month, the musical
rendition and the forthcoming
television series. The children
who originally watched this
movie back in '88 now have
chijj^ren who are watching
these movies while the
parents ask how on earth has
this series hasn’t gone extinct
yet? Like a bad case of herpes,
"The Land Before Time" just
keeps coming back, no matter
how hard you try to stop it.
The horror of awful sequels
continues to this day. No
one has been able to destroy
this soul-consuming beast.
Maybe someday a brave soul
will stand up and say, "Hey!
This is exactly the same as
the last three 'House Party'
Movies!" Until that day we
will be forced to endure
such travesties as "Speed
3" or a "White Chicks 2"
(aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!), One
day Hollywood must learn
that their evil deeds will not
go unpunished and we will
rise up and we will destroy
them.
