"Hunters of Dune" begins climax to epic saga
u M ike G orgone __________ _

The "Dune" novels
have chronicled the lives of
hundreds of characters and
dozens of worlds over the
course of millennia. Frank
- Herbert began the legacy
with the original "Dune"
and continued with its five
sequels. After his death, the
series was left unfinished,
ending in a dramatic
cliffhanger in his sixth novel
of the series, "Chapterhouse:
Dune." Now, more than two
decades after the publication
of "Chapterhouse: Dune" in
1985, Brian Herbert, Frank's
son, will conclude the epic
tale with the dual release
of "Hunters of Dune" and
"Sandworms of Dune."
Brian began to expand
his father's work back in '99
with a prequel to the original
"Dune," titled "Dune: House
Atreides." Written with the
help of acclaimed science-
fiction writer and editor,
Kevin J. Anderson, "House
Atreides" would culminate
in a trilogy of books that
foreshadowed the events
that occurred in the original
"Dune."
Herbert and Anderson
continued to expand upon
the "Dune" universe for five
more years, with the release
of a trilogy of uber-prequels
that take place thousands
of years before "Dune." All
of this seems insignificant
in comparison to the
undertaking of finishing what
Frank Herbert began.
"Hunters of Dune" which
was released in mid August
of this year, is the first part of
a gigantic conclusion to the
elder Herbert's works, which
will end with the forthcoming
release of "Sandworms of
Dune."
"Hunters" picks up three
years after the events in
"Chapterhouse," with the
main character Duncan
Idaho on the run from a
mysterious Enemy and the
twisting political whiles of
a burgeoning sisterhood,
both who would have him
captured or killed. Alongside
Idaho is a ragtag group of
refugees who are all fleeing
for their own reasons; be
it for freedom, escaping
persecution or to just be free
of an existence that would
rob them of honor. Through
it all, Duncan must navigate
through the endless tracks of
space in search of a safe haven
that has yet to present itself
and safeguard all those who
would follow him.
"Hunters" brings together
storylines that span the
length and breadth of the
entire "Dune" saga, such
as bringing back favorite
characters from all of the
previous novels in the form of
reincarnated Gholas (Clones).
Idaho is, himself, a Ghola
from a character in "Dune,"
reincarnated thousands of
times over the millennia in a

With four solid actors and
one ex-Calvin Klein model/
white boy rapper, how could
this movie not be amazing?
"The Departed" stars actors
Matt Damon (Colin Sullivan),
Leonardo DiCaprio (Billy
Costigan), Mark Wahlberg
(Dignam), Jack Nicholson
(Frank Costello), Alec
Baldwin (Ellerby) and was
co-produced by Brad Pitt.
With this spectactular cast,
audiences expect the best film
possible.
"The Departed" was
directed by Martin Scorsese,
who also directed the famous
mob movie, "Goodfellas"
in 1990. Luckily but not
surprisingly, "The Departed"
pulled through with both
quality and good looks.
In this classic film of
organized crime in Boston,
Sullivan and Costigan play
opposite sides of the law in
this action packed flick to
make a gritty story of good
cop and bad cop.
The film, loosely adapted
from "Infernal Affairs"
released in 2002, opens
with Sullivan, who was
orphaned at a young age
and taken under the wing
of head bad guy, Costello.
Costello, taking advantage
of an impressionable kid,
helps him become a dirty
cop. At the same time,
Costigan, a cop with good
intentions, is put through
the wringer and is asked to
become an undercover cop
in the very same mob. Their
lives, unknowingly, become
intertwined in a complicated
ring of twists and turns. The
race to uncover each others'
attention and didn't let go.
For someone who is not able
to sit still for an extended
amount of time, that's a
big deal. "The Departed"
managed to captivate me and
forced me to unwind the plot.
It held me right up until the
dramatic ending. This is a film
with good actors, plot and
script. A rare find these days
and definitely worth your
time and money.

secret identities concludes this
thriller.
Although a little confusing
at the beginning, this movie
is recommend for those of the
appropriate age. That is not
to say there is no violence in
the film because there sure is
plenty of it.
This movie deserves it's
R rating for strong brutal
violence, drug content and
pervasive language. However,
a movie about organized
crime would not be the same
without the raw violence it is
known for, and thus, I feel the
violence is justified.
This two and a half hour
movie, although seeming
lengthy at times, grabbed my
"My favorite part of the club
is teaching people who don't
know about salsa," Gonzalez
said. "Everyone and anyone is
welcome to join this club and
learn the dance."
This form of music traveled
from Puerto Rico and Cuba to
New York between the 1940s
and the 1970s. Salsa steps
came from Cuba and were
influenced by other Cuban
dances, like the rumba and
mambo, as well as swing.
There are many different
styles of salsa such as the
Los Angeles style which was
influenced more heavily by
Hollywood and swing.
There have only been a few
meetings and Gonzalez says
right now it's just about having
fun, but it is possible that at
some point they will partner
up with the Swing Club and

serial of lives. Each character
must use his or her unique
skills to help Duncan defeat
the mysterious Enemy and
save all of existence.
HUNTERS OF
The chapters in "Hunters"
are short, most only spanning
a few pages so the read feels
quicker than it actually is; the
whole book is a whopping 524
pages. The writing is solid,
using a well-crafted style that
is both like and unlike that
of Frank Herbert. The young
Herbert and Anderson create a
tale in a chaotic universe, full
of conflict and intrigue. When
you turn the final page of the
book, it leaves you aghast
and drooling for more. With
a climactic cliffhanger that
reveals the mysterious Enemy
for what it truly is, "Hunters
of Dune" leaves you begging
for the release of next year's,
"Sandworms of Dune."
However, before even
considering reading this book,
you must first consult the
other 12 books that precede
it. For without a foundation,
what worth does a climax
have? And don't let the idea of
a long saga frighten you, the
"Dune" saga is, hands down,
some of the best science-
fiction ever written and is well
worth reading at almost any
age. So if you're looking for
a great read, pick up the saga
begun by Frank Herbert and
finished by his son. It is worth
every word.
