Rabick To Rule May Festivities; Sharp To Manage Amplifier Thursday, March 30, 1950 WEST LINN, OREGON Vol. 24, No. 9 jt New Pep Club Members Told Speech Students Capture Trophy With many girls in the run ning to gain positions on the Pep Club, the race was a close one this year; however, the va rious classes have chosen the following girls to represent theriV in building the teams’ morale throughout the year. Representing next year’s soph omore class will be Judy Avison, Helen Blinkhorn, Beth Church, Shirley Fox, Rita Garner, Anne Lander, Pat Milliken, Neva Per kins, Shirley Williams, and Mar jorie Zeller. Alternates for that class will be Barbara Anderson and Bettie Chubb. Next year’s juniors have chosen Joyce Cumberland, Anne Gribble, Marilyn Harr, Nancy Mabee, Barbara Ollsen, Joyce Patterson, Sue Ralston, Janet Sherman, Sharon Stein, and Pat Watt with Beverly Misterek and Donna Bagley serving as alter nates. In their last year the seniors have chosen Judy Brear, Ruth Ann Corderman, Sue Earlen - baugh, Carol Ann Elie, Bonna Fritchie, Joan Hopp, Catherine 5 Ness,, Louise Rickard, Joyce,- Schaber, and June Stone to furn ish the boys with pep. Jackie Steuárt and Delores Davis will act as alternates. The Northern Willamette dis trict speech meet was held at West Linn Friday, March 17. Schools participating in the meet were: Sandy, Estacada, Oregon City and' West Linn. West Linn captured the district sweepstakes award for which the speakers were awarded a large trophy; This trophy was later presented to student body presi dent, Bert Stein, to be placed in the school’s trophy case. Election Results Tallied For Queen '* The student body went to the polls Wednesday, March 29, to elect a ruler for the 1950 May Day festivities. In a close race, Virginia Rabick was selected for this honor. Virginia has attended West Linn during the four years of her high school career before which time she attended Staf ford grade school. She has air ways participated in school ac tivities some of whiclv included serving on the Pep Club, secre tary of her sophomore class, and, àt the present time, secretary of the student body. Attending Queen Virginia will be Thelma Parrish as Maid of Honor. Princesses who will com plete the cbUnt; of eight include Carol Winslow^ Willina Adams, Marcia Hale, Virginia Lubeck, Joan Michels; and Margie Niesen. The task of May Day manager goes to a capable senior boy, Aubrey Sharp. Aubrey is a mem ber of many of thé school’s or ganizations. and has shown his ability to manage and direct by serving as president of the Cam era Club and business manager of the “Amplifier.” The students of West Linn join in extending hearty congratula tions to Queen Virginia, her court and May Day Manager Aubrey Sharp. JR. TOASTMASTERS PLAN SPEECH TOUR The Junior Toastmasters have been holding their regular meet ings every other Wednesday. At the present time they are planning a good-will speech tour to local high schools of Clacka mas and Multnomah counties. The, tour is to arouse interest in speech. Club Name Selected One of West Linn’s newest clubè, the Horizon club, held its last meeting in the school’s li brary and the members of. the group adopted a name for the ]■ organization. HorizOii club usu ally select Indian names and, | after much discussion, the name, Tanda, was decided upon. Tonight, the month’s second meeting will be held at the home of the advisor when the girls will gather for a potluck supper. Finals in Northern Willamette speech contest brought top sweepstakes honors to West Linn and second place to Estacada high school at a competition held Friday, March 17 at West Linn.
