Œtje Amplifier Music Lettermen Class of 1950 Tops Honor Boll Begin Organizing After a year of practically a blank space on the Honor Roll, the class of 1950 came back this first six weeks to nose out the other three classes in representa tion on the Honor Roll. There were three students in the school who racked up straight 1’s: Virginia Lubeck, Janet Bauer, Freshman, and Con nie Newton, Freshman. Those who made the Honor Roll are: Seniors: Willina Adams, John Danehy, Margaret Illingworth, Virginia Lubeck, Joanne Lundy, Virginia Rabick, Joyce Richard son, Roy Shearer, Norman Stauf fer, Betty Weibel, Carol Winslow, Louis Worthington. SPEECH STUDENTS TO ENTER CONTEST In the year’s first meeting of the Music Lettermen, plans by which the clul? might pay a small debt owed to the student body were suggested and discussed. President Roy Shearer asked that all members express their opinions upon choosing a new name for the group. Since the blub has gained about fifteen new members this year, an initiation banquet may be held later in the term. TYV PRESS CLUB MEETS IN TIGARD The second diriiner meeting of the TYV Press Club, held Wed nesday, November 2, at Tigard high was attended by the league high school except Hillsboro who withdrew from the organ ization because of the inconveni ence of attending. Among the 30 journalism students and ad visers were Miss Sinclair, Shirley Calder, Shirley Helms and Au brey Sharp from West Linn. During a round table discus sion following dinner, West Linn and Oregon City were chosen to draw a constitution for the club. Raising money for the financ ing of the organization was the main topic of discussion. As a solution, the press club has un- dertakep the task of pqblishing the TYV jamboree programs/ which are to be 10-page booklets, SVz by 10 inches. Each page will consist of a full-sized cut of the basketball squad and a complete rosier, including height, weight, year, experience, and position of the players. McMinnville and Newberg are in charge of the make up of the pamphlet. Two thousand copies are to be printed and sold in all the Schools and at the jamboree for 10 cents each. The next meeting of the organ ization is scheduled for Decem ber 7 at Beaverton. The annual speech contests will be held this year at Pacific College Friday night and all day Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3. Pep Club, Band Activities Vary West Linn to Bid Goodby To Lake Oswego Students Oswego and Lake Grove voted for a new union high school dis trict at a special election Tuesday, November 15. The results of the election were: 607 for, 113 against in Lake Grove; 492 for, 242 against in Oswego. The election resulted from a desire of Oswego and Lake Grove to have a voic^ in a school of their own and to eliminate the CAST CHOSEN FOR S.B. PLAY Mr. Hays has announced the cast for the forthcoming student body play, “You Can’t Take It With You,” to be presented Thursday and Friday, December 1 and 2, at 8 p. m. The play deals with an ex travagantly mad family, the Sycamores. As the play pro gresses, the audience realizes that if the Sycamores are mad, the rest of the world is madder. The rdmantic interest is supplied by Willina Adams and Bob Nel son as Alice Sycamore and Tony Kirby whose course of love runs bang into the entire Sycamore family complete with fireworks, snakes, “G” men, and an ine briated actress. Roy Metcalf, as Grandpa, has an interview with the income-tax collector when he tells him he doesn’t believe in the income tax. Roy is a transfer from Tilla mook and a member of the Thespians. Diana Murphy, who plays Penny Sycamore, is a member of both the Thespians and the National Forensic League. Jackie Steuart and David Lenz are the screwball couple, Essie and Ed, who dance and play the xylophone. The Band and Pep Club per formed two drills at home games; one at the,Forest Grove game and one at the Oregon City game. GIRLS, BRING YOUR After the official basketball FELLOWS! season starts, the town teams will play on Wednesday nights. Recreation Night Provides Sports distance their students must travel to various high schools. When the accounts and bud gets were audited, it was found that forming a union district would cost taxpayers no more than the present school support. The new union high school dis trict has been paying 45 per cent of the non-high total while furnishing only 35 per cent of the .pupils. The proposed site for the high school is a 13 acre tract located in a point formed by Market and Bpones Ferry roads. The site is located halfway between Os wego and Lake Grove. At present the high school committee feels that 20 acres will be necessary for the high school, Plans are to have a six- year union high school. A bond election will be held later. Mr. Tunnell, of West Linn High, says that the new high school will eliminate approxi mately 150 students from the West Linn’ student body. NEW "LION’S DEN" OPENS NEAR WLHS Many students have patronized the new “Lion’s Den” directly across from the high School since the official opening Friday, No vember 4. During the noon hour this new establishment serves sandwiches, chili, and soft drinks to the stu dents at reasonable prices. Thé building contains a foun tain service, a lunch counter, and juke box for the convenience and pleasure of the students. VETS TO RECEIVE WEST LINN TALENT Several skits will be presented for the veterans at Barnes Hos pital, Vancouver, Washington, on Sunday, December 18, by the West Linn chapter of the Junior Red Cross. This plan that each high school should have an entertainment program was discussed at the Clackamas County meeting of the Junior Red Cross on November 3 at Sandy. Any student interested in par ticipating in the council should contact Joanne Lundy.
