Games will commence in the latter part of May or the first part of June. All girls of high school age or over are invited to join; anyone wishing to do so should see Mrs. Elliott as soon as possible. So far, girls from West Linn who are on the team from this district are Florine, Diane, and Ramona Eisele, Nellie Herndon, Sally Ware, Colleen McCandless, and Lois Pickle. Coach Brown’s Lions returned home victorious Thursday, March 31, after Bert Stein pitched a shutout game, holding Canby to only three hits, while the Lions scored 4 runs. This pre-league contest was the opening battle for the Lions^ 1949 season. Zenger’s three base hit in the second and a double by Goold in the sixth brought the runs in for the Lions. In the second track event of the year, the West Linn lads took second place in a four way meet held at Hillsboro last Wednesday afternoon, April 13. Hillsboro took first place. West Linn copped sec ond position, Oregon City placed third, and Forest Grove came in fourth and last. Aus tin Hull was high point man for West Linn with 8% of the 371/2 points that the Lions racked up. Ronnie Schief was just under Hull in points, thus coming in as second place man for West Linn. ♦ Coach Burnett has begun his school wide quest for tumblers to > participate in the May Day activities. Physical edu cation classes have had a few days of tumbling to find possibilities; then they will practice during noon hours for approximately two weeks before May Day in order to cultivate the talents of those who are chosen. ♦ ♦ * Girls’ physical education classes have also caught the May Day bug and have started practicing for their dances to take place on that glorious day. * * * George Matile, baseball star here last year, is doing very well for himself in the Willam ette University squad. In one of the team’s latest games with Central Washington, George came up with a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate, including two tri ples and a double.
