TH! £ AMPLIFIER Friday, Oct. 22, 1943 Page Three Fashion Lines by Kay Johnson Lions Take Second Game Of Season Gresham Defeated by Aerial Attack in Second And Third Quarters Coming to life three-fourths way through the first half, the West Linn football machine snapped a beautiful pass, which carried the ball all the way from their own 28-yard line to the Gresham 18. Three plays later another pass from the Gresham eleven brought the Lions their first touchdown, which spurred them on to de feat the Gresham eleven, 16 to 6. West Linn made their touch downs in the second and third quarters. A pass from Wood to Huebner in second brought West Linn’s first score. A pass from Wood to Robertson was good for the try for point. Two extra points were gained for West Linn in the third quarter when Foreman tackled Sunderland be hind the Gresham goal line. Sunderland had taken a 63-yard punt from Wood. The second Lion touchdown was made by Johnson over right tackle. The pass' from Wood to Robertson made the try for point god. poach Bartholomew’s charges made their lone touchdown in the second quarter when Owens carried, the ball over from his 1-yard line after a 20-yard pass from Tarpenning to Callister. The only equipment that the girls will be required to have is at least one gym suit of any style or color, and a pair of shoes with rubber soles. Sports Review - - -------- By Hooff Having lost the Forest Grove game to a team who were out for blood after the beating they took last year, the West Linn football squad is going to train harder for the rest of the season. We learned a lesson in the last game and had a few tough breaks but all in all it was a swell game to watch. Today we play Beaverton at Beaverton and from all reports they aren’t going to be tough. Next week we play Tigard on their field. The boys are going to be in there fighting for the glory of the Green and Gold so how about some support. Let’s everybody turn up at Beaverton and Tigard. Coaches Brown and Nixon think that after the beating we took from Forest Grove that we have a good chance to beat Bea verton, Tigard, Hillsboro, New berg, McMinnville and, of course, Tillamook on November 5, or in other words Sadie Hawkin’s day. Coach Brown says that he will not let any football player run in the race on that memorial occasion. (Tough luck girls.) The s^tory of the^first quarter is really, the story of the game. In that frame Forest Grove made 113 yarâg to West Linn’s none, and in fhe quarter carried over two touchdowns and converted both tinies to make the score 14 to 0. ,7.. The third touchdown, was made as soon as Forest Giove got the ball in the second quarter. Right half Kurry, who had set up the ball for the previous touchdown by taking a reverse from Franks and galloping 24 yards, took an other one of those reverses but this time lateralled out to War ner who galloped 50 yards for the counter. This time Knight missed. In the third quarter thé Lions held their own fairly well until a pass from McMurren fell into the arms of the alert Kurry, who goose-stepped from his own 8- yard line down across the West Linn goal, a 92-yard run. Knight’s kick was good. The final counter came after a new Forest Grove backfield man, Knapp, nparked the ball down to West Linn’s 18. He re- versed to Kurry on the 18, and Kurry carried down to the 2. Hines went over for the counter. Knight’s kick was good, the score 34 to 0. That was the game.
