Advisor: Mr. Howard What May Day Means NOTES TO YOU Elections of the May Queen and her court are over for one more year. The nominations have been held, the campaign speeches given and then the final elec tions. Many of the people, not con nected with West Linn, wonder why all the fuss and bother is spent in arranging for May Day; electing a Queen and court and planning a special program. The answer is that May Day is a tra dition at West Linn. It is looked upon by all students and their parents as one of the outstanding days of the year. Each parent wants their son or daughter to take part in the May Day festivities, showing what they have accomplished during the past year and where their talents and interests lie. The eighth grade students from various schools also look forward to attending the celebration and finding out what school next year will hold in store for them. Practically every student takes some sort of a part in the fes tivities and is one day of the year that is respected by all the West Linn students. This year Barbara White will reign and we wish her to have all the success in the doing so as have previous queens had before her. with (Beat me daddy I’m still full of corn) Larue A good number of students are expected to hear Van Armi tage tonight at the junior class dance. Van’s Ork played for stu dents last Tuesday and it’s being no more than a loyal junior to say they did well. Best rendition was the Miller arrangement of “Little Brown Jug,” which was played with the least mistakes. It’s probably safe to say that he’s the best band to play at W.L. yet. Musician, critic, journalist, Glenn Campbell (“No Glenn, keep your nickel”) has just re turned from a sudden trip to Can ada. He came back when some one told him that the gent with the brass buttons who had knocked at his door was only a busman on a holiday. Mr. Camp bell, who stopped in many Wash ington towns when Kay Kyser was there, was not much im pressed with' the professor. (But he didn’t get very close — the management always made him keep his popcorn wagon outside). Next time your down at Bonnie and Charlie’s in Oswego, try a nickel on “The Flaming Sword” with D. Ellington. Somewhere, under a groove full of compli cated arranging is a solid bunch of riffs.
