Football Banquet Ernest Kahle was presented the Bernie Herrmann Outstanding Player Award at the annual West Linn football banquet held No vember 27. Elected by the members of this years grid team, Kahle will have his name placed under that of last year’s winner, John Alan Whitney, on the placque. The banquet program included a talk on “Pending Developments for the Athletic Department” by School Board Chairman Kenneth Renner and a speech on the “N e w Athletic Conference” by Coach Brown. Coach Sam Nixon spoke on “A New Use for Red Tape” and Freshman Grid Coach Tunnell told of his team in “The Greener They Are the Faster They Grow.” Captain Don Vinton talked on “From Gridirons to Battle Irons” and Ernest Kahle 1 and Earl Merkle presented Coaches Nixon and Brown with presents from the team. Bernie Herrmann then presented his award. The program also included mu sic by Morton Parks and Bob Gil lett. The plot is concerned mainly with the results of the visit of Aunt Myra Dodd, the wealthy aunt of the hero, and the amaz ing events that follow Rodney Dodd’s supposedly true fact that he is going to die. Annual Pictures Taken by Carter On KOIN Radio Forum Whitman College To Award Scholarships Announcements concerning the award of thirteen $500 pre-pro- fessional scholarships to be awarded by Whitman college have been forwarded to high schools, this week. These $500 scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and are available to both boys and. girls graduating from the high schools of Washington, Ore gon, Idaho and Montana. The thirteen fields of award in clude law, medicine, engineering, chemistry, physics, teaching, journalism, business and govern ment service. The merit of the candidate will be given first weight and several awards may be made in one field. Last Assembly Held For Football Games The last football assembly of the year was held in the audi torium on Wednesday, Novem ber 20, with the “Pep Kings,” John and Gene, functioning as high voltage generators. The main feature of the pro gram was the presentation of a number by the whistling chorus, a group of trained vocalists. The members were introduced per sonally by the student body president, Harold Ness. He ex plained that each one had been selected by a policeman on duty in the halls as a result of his proven ability as a whistler. It has since been reliably reported that whistling is on the decline. Due to the inability of Mary MacLean to act, the singing was led by Peggy Redhead. Freshman Class Holds Meeting The Freshmen held their class meeting Tuesday, November 26, in the auditorium. They elected Donald Dennis as the class rep resentative. The meeting was then turned over to John Nolan, chief of police, who read the laws of the West Linn high school. “Can laws make us secure?” This is the subject of the radio forum to be conducted on the American School of the Air in which eight sociology students from West Linn will participate Friday, November 29. For those who wish to listen it will be broadcast over KOIN on Friday, November 29, at 2:00 o’clock. This is one of a series of high school broadcasts sponsor ed by this station featuring many of the leading schools of western Oregon. Those who are on the forum are: Glenn Campbell, who is presiding chairman, Loren Milli ken, Mary Jane Hill, Frances Ber- nert, Audrey Church, Peggie Mc Clure, Betty Easson, and Lois Butler. Home Room Girls Present Assembly Miss McWhorter’s home room girls presented to the student body a pantomine Monday morn ing. It was announced by Na dine Fields. The girls who took part were Pauline Staggs, Bar bara De Bok, Marilyn Miller, and Noreen Peterson. A brief sketch was given to the students by Mr. Goetzl of the Junior play, “One Wild Night,” and the characters of the play were introduced. This play is to be held November 29 at 8 p. m. at the West Linn auditorium. Speech Club Founded For Students' Interest The Speech club was founded for the purpose of perpetuating the interest of students in speech work. It has had two years of exis tence of the permanent organi zation. Glenn Campbell, president of this club, is quoted as saying, “I really believe that we have an organization that will go someplace this year. We have laid elaborate plans for this year and hope to make it the most successful year that the Speech club has ever enjoyed at West Linn.” The following officers for this year: Glenn Campbell, presi dent; Lois Young, vice president; Maxine Chaney, secretary-treas- urer.
