Howard, visited West Linn high school, November 13. He spoke to the students on the sub ject of education and its advant ages. He told the students to study so as to be able to get more out of their school work. Mr. Howard also mentioned that plenty of sleep was necessary for a student going to school; also that the teachers can not do all the work, they can not educate the students. They must do their part. Mr. Gary started his teaching career at Coquille, Oregon under the able supervision of Mr. How ard. Miss Baker also started teach ing under the present State Super intendent of Schools at Marshfield. A musical program was given in honor of Mr. Howard. The students sang “Oregon, My Oregon” as that is Mr. ..Howard’s favorite. LOVE AIDS i hl I« While the postman may not be a flirt all the girls get love letters from him. The cry of “batter up” now heard, is not a warning that the dough is rising. FIRST APPEARANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA The high school orchestra, under the direction of Miss Kathryne la- wood, made its first public appear ance at the Student Body Play, Friday, November 21. The num bers they played were: “Our Na tional Honor March,” William Grant Brook; “The World Is Wait ing for the Sunrise,” Lochhart and Sectg; “Spirit of the West,” H. A. Hummer; “Gypsy Love Song,” Vic tor Herbert. The music added much to the evening’s entertainment and the orchestra will be present at all fu ture plays. There are seven new members in the orchestra this year who are working hard to take the place of those who graduated. The mem bers are: voilins, Don Nelson, Ida Mae Beam, Kenneth Elliott, Jimmy Kenney, Edith Snyder; clarinets, Bud Berry, Burton Ellege; cornets, Louis Pratt, Hamilton Johnson; saxophone, Elwood Dunmire; trom bones, Bill Nelson, Howard Mown- ke; Bass, Mr. Burns; drums, Jane Merrick, Ed Wells; accompanist, Guy Patterson. BAND PROVED SUCCESS The band this year under the direction of Mr. Wetmore plan a more successful year than in the past. Mr. Wetmore hopes to go down to Corvallis and capture first place in the band contest held there. There are 33 members in the band. They have played for every football game but one; that being the Molalla and West Linn game on the home grounds. Some men imagine themselves so good that they want their reward on earth. Mr. Shearer: James why do you sit there and scratch your head? Jim P.: Because I am the only one that knows it itches. NO. 6. Character Acting' Very Noticeable. One of the best plays ever pre sented at West Linn was given F'ri- • day night under the direction of Miss Lucille Pearson and Miss Mae Horton. It was a melodrama con sisting of a prologue, two acts and an epilogue. Hamilton Johnson ............. and Edydrd Wells In the prologue, Quimby and his wife have come to the Inn to pre pare it for the expected visit of William Magee who, as the result of a bet is coming to the inn to write a story in 24 hours. He ar rives about 12 o’clock, and obtains the key from the caretaker. Elijah and his wife both swear that it is the only key in existence that will unlock the door to the inn. About half an hour later, after the caretakers have gone, Magee hears someone entering the house. He overhears a conversation in which Bland tells Cargan that $200,000 is waiting for him at the inn. One by one during the night, Mary Norton and Mrs. Rhodes, Peter, Myra Thornhill, Lou Max and Jim Cargan, and Thomas Hay den with John Bland come to the hotel after the money. Magee fools them all, and keeps them there un til Mary Norton has arrived at Reu- ton with the money. She calls from Reuton saying that she has lost the money. While Magee is answering the telephone ,the crooks overpow er him and tell Mary Norton to come back to the hotel. During the excitement, Lou Max shoots Myra Thornhill for trying to double cross him. The police are called for, and the blame is laid on Magee by com mon consent of the rest. By the time the police arrive the body had disappeared. It was carried away by Peter the hermit. In trying to unravel the mystery the chief of police is tempted to steal the money and go to Canada, but is prevented. The owner of Baldpate arrives at the last moment to ex plain that the people are not really (Continued on Page Three.)
