Van couver Ave., stated: The resolution of the D em ocrat C entral Com m ittee should be disregarded. It was first turned down by all com m it tees in the local convention after careful exam ination of the facts which showed that the Knott stre e t project should be supported. These com m it tees w ere overruled by C hair man F r a n k R oberts, who brought it to the floor in an undem ocratic m anner. Op position was squelched by R oberts, who allowed Wally Priestly, seeking support from the Urban League and the N.A.C.P. in his race for State R epresentative, the alm ost com plete ow nership of the floor. With only one side p re sented with distorted and in com plete facts the Resolution was incorporated in the plat form . Personal political am bition of these two men was the m ost im portant factor, as was the prom otion of the re so lution passed last Thursday, an indication that facts are not im portant in som e politicalac- tivity. I am personally asham ed that th e D em ocratic party should put itself on record as opposed to public housing w here it is needed, that it would seek to legislate where a site will be located, that it would discrim inate against colored home ow ners desirous of im provem ent and upgrading of th eir neighborhood, and for setting forth a policy for argu m ents against housing in Jew ish, Skandinavian, G erm an, Italian, or any other ethnic O fficers and m em bers of The Booker T. The new organization is a Non P artisan Group open to Republicans, D em ocrats and Independents. The necessary need an d purpose for this Club is to seek o u t non-registered peo ple and acquaint them with the im portance of registering and voting. T h e Political Education Clubs initial goal is to p re sent to its m em bers infor mation data on A spirants for Public Office and educate their m em bers of the im portance of m em bers to the im portance of studying records and issues on candidates seeking office. Elected as P res, was A rthur A. Palm er, owner of The D es ert Motel. Don Alford, Man aging Editor of thé OREGON MIRROR newspaper was elec ted Vice President. An open invitation will be extended to all Candidates, reg ard less of party, to come rr> th eir club house to discuss platform s and program s with th eir groups and to bring lit eratu re to be studied and c ir culated by the Political Ed ucation Club. A resolution was passed unanimously favoring housing in the Albina area. To the Editor: The public hassle that is going on re garding the placing of the low cost housing. 1 feel the deci sion should be left up to the people in this area instead of the Urban League or any other organization of so -c a lle d leaders. The people of the Albina area have given no one, no organizations, perm ission to represent us. We shall re p re sent ourselves. T h e project will help beautify a rundown area. It is close to all public transportation and shopping centers. It will give incentive to others to beautify their homes. So let these self-im posed leaders talk th eir heads off. We, the people of the Albina area, think the proposed site is a good one. ALEX EVERS, 124 N. Knott St. Return an Experienced Legislator HAROLD B. DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE Help build the OREGON MIRROR.
