Eddie Machen is training heavily for his forthcoming
match with Burt Whithurst on the 23rd of A pril in Los Ang
eles, California, at the New Sports Arena.
Machen is the Nations No. 2 contender for a shot at
Floyd Patterson fo r the heavy weight championship.
Machen stated that he offered to fight Sonny Liston, but
fo r some mysterious reason, Liston w ill not fight him.
Sonny Liston decisioned Machen in 1959, and 2 weeks
before the bout Machen had injured him self by pulling a
ligament in his right shoulder while in training for the
fight. In spite of his injuries Machen fought the full 12
rounds, giving Liston one of the best battles of his boxing
c a rreer. Machen made an agreement with Liston prior to
the match, stating that should he defeat Liston , a return
match was promised. Unfortunately he was defeated. Machen
predicts Sonny Liston w ill defeat Floyd Patterson, for the
Heavyweight Championship of the World. Also indicated by
Machen was his desire to meet A rchie M oore if the purse
was right.

So often because of economic depression, m arital problems

devout Christian is setting a pattern for these youngsters, that
would make any parent proud. An environment of Christian
love and teaching. Parental care away from home. Rev.
Collins has dedicated her life toward caring for these child
