Zeta Iota Sorority Inc. met Sunday A pril 8, 1962 at the
home of Mrs. Gloria Brown, 4206 N.E. Rodney, Final plans
were drawn for the sorority’ s 3rd. Annual International
Snack, coming soon.
This year as in privious years the snack will be held at
the home of Rozelle J. Yee, 202 N.E. Graham. If you read
the Jan. 4th 1962 issue of the Portland Reporter, you are
aware that the Yee Home, according to the Reporter, “ Is one
of Portland’ s old mansions and has been refurnished by Mrs.
Yee.
Mrs. Ann L. Powell, Grand Worthy Matron of Order of
Eastern Star, arrived in the city from Los Angeles on her
official visit to Mt. Hood Chapter. She was met at the station
by Mrs. Helen E. Jackson, Worthy Matron; Mrs. Frances
R. Johns, Grand District Deputy. Mrs. Lillian Dean and Mr.
Clark Dean Jr., Grand District Deputy. She was presented
an orchid on her arrival. Mrs. Powell will be feted at several
social affairs while in the city. She is stopping at the home
of Mrs. Helen Jackson, Worthy Matron, 4407 N.E. Cleveland.
The Hi Hatters who meet twice a month on the 2nd and 4th
Sat. were the guest last Saturday of Mrs. Beulah M ills at
5910 N.E. 10th. Following the business meeting the ladies
were served the kind of food that is a minute in the mouth
and a life time on the hips. However the Hi Hatters check­
mated the calories by doing the twist.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Batiste will be returning soon from
Chicago where they flew for a ten day trip. Mr. is on bus­
iness, Mrs. is seeing the town. Wish that I were with her.
The YMCA is sponsoring an Interest Group fo r ladies at
the Knott Street Community Center each 2nd and 4th Wednes­
day at 7:45 P.M. Please come and make your interests
known.
The Challenger Bridge Club members are busy prepaiing
for a tournament Saturday at 1 P.M. at the Elks Club.
Guests are expected from Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane.
There will be a trophy for high pair winners.

(A pril 7, 1962) - At the beautiful Aladdin restaurant, A
surprise birthday dinner was given by Mrs. C. Brous­
sard, honoring her daughter, Miss Peggy Ann Broussard,
age 14, who attends St. Phillip N eri Grammer School.
Friends and eighth grade classmates present are from left
to right: Mrs. June Pool, Sharon Oglesby, Bonita Benford,-
Patty Hefflinger, Mrs. Boussard, Peggy Ann Boussard,
Patty Martiniz, Lerene Patton and Francis Ann Clark.
Menu, consisted of Jello salad, fried chicken, dutches
potatoes, green peas, hot rolls and butter dessert, Ice
cream and a two layer birthday cake, decorated with ice
skating design, which is one of P eggy’ s outstanding hobbies.
It is with great pleasure for The Oregon M ir r o r to present
to its readers a new column, called the Spotlight. The
purpose of the Spotlight will be to present people of inter­
est to our readers.
Th ere are many people deserving or recognition, who are
dedicated to their community and the people they serve that
you seldom hear of. We wish to place these people in the
M ir r o r Spotlaight, so that our reading Public will know
who and why these people are deserving of recognition.
Bernice Odom, fo rm e r beautician at L illia n ’ s Beauty
Shop, has returned to L illia n ’ s.
The youth choir of Bethel A.M.E. Church will present a
religeous pageant entitled, “ The Questioner’ ’
It is a play of faith and endurance of the true Christians.
Along with a cast of twenty in beautiful costumes p erform ­
ing in a back-ground of realistic scenery; there w ill be
sweet Easter Music. The play is under the direction of
Mrs. Lula Gragg. Scenery by Miss N ellie Franklin. Music
by Mrs. Magnolia Taylor. The play will be held in the aud­
itorium of the church at 5828 N.E. 8th. 5:30 P.M., Sunday,
April 15th.
