Above and above right: On Saturday, November 18, OTEC volunteers, work-
ing alongside many community partners, such as the City of Baker City, and
donned their safety gear and prepared an OTEC bucket truck for a very special
event. It was time once again to help secure and deliver the annual downtown
Christmas tree in Baker City. Gene Nelson, OTEC’s Baker Substation Foreman
has been volunteering for this event the last 16 years. Gene, along with other
OTEC volunteers, Ned Ratterman, Bud Scott and Rod Wolf, worked together to
ensure the entire process happened safely. The entire process took about four
hours. Sandra Ghormley, Director of Member and Program Services, said Find-
ing the right tree, measuring, cutting and lifting it onto and from the tow truck is
no easy feat.
