Resolution No. 2017-

On October 10, 2017,
Baker County Dispatch
received information that
a vehicle had been driven
into the Haines Pond.
Baker County Sheriff's
deputies responded to the
location.
After searching the area,
deputies were unable to
locate the vehicle or the
subject involved.
On October 11, 2017, a
local towing company con-
tacted the Baker County
Search and Rescue Team
and asked for assistance
with diving into a pond to
recover a vehicle.
At that time, investiga-
tors were told that the
driver of the vehicle was
Theodore Schadewitz.
Deputies contacted
Schadewitz during the
course of the investigation.
He was intoxicated and
provided limited informa-
tion about the incident.
Schadewitz mentioned
that a passenger was in the
vehicle but was unable to
provide deputies with a last
name for that individual.
The passenger had been
able to safely exit the
vehicle.
Three Search and Res-
cue divers, as well as sup-
port personnel, responded
to the Haines Pond.
The divers located the
second from Nichols. An
assumed monthly wage
of $800 will be used for
public safety volunteers, in
the positions of fi refi ghter
and emergency medical
personnel.
Baker County Transpor-
tation/Traffi c Safety Com-
mission By-Laws were
approved, with some noted
changes, with a motion
from Bennett, and a second
from Nichols.
