Council Comments
Councilor Thomas again
addressed the possibility of
readdressing the marijuana
dispensary issue.
He said, “I know it won’t
fi x our problems but it
might help.”
Warner agreed to look
into some statistics and
bring his fi ndings to Coun-
cil. Mayor Downing told
Council that he had just
returned from a conference
in Portland where Home-
lessness and Mental Health
issues were of topic.
He learned that people
on the western side of the
state did not realize that ru-
ral Oregon like Baker City
did not have the resources
that were available there.
Downing said in some
cases homeless or mentally
ill persons were being put
on buses and sent to this
area with nothing and once
here were unable to fi nd
the help that they needed.
He said that by getting
that information out there
he hoped that the practice
would stop and while we
didn’t appear to have many
homeless here that would
stop any chance of their
becoming one.
With nothing further
Mayor Downing adjourned
the meeting.
