Joanie Gail McClaughry Baker City, 1940-2017 Joanie Gail McClaughry, 61, of Baker City, died on July 28, 2017 at the home of her niece Joanie in Union, McClaughry Oregon. Joanie McClaughry was a loving mother who loved her family. She was a sister to 10 other siblings and was termed an “identical mir- ror” twin as well. Joanie lived a beautiful life. She always loved going to the beach in her younger days in Newport Oregon, where she had originally moved from to eastern Oregon, where she and her daughter Kawa Taiko CONTINUED FROM PAGE 8 Komoto and the other drummers performed fi ve songs; some tradi- tional pieces, a song that is “ever-changing” that they created, and some with their own twists added to them. They also performed a piece called “Drum Battle,” where they would play and respond to each other. The drums used were handmade from oak bar- rels with cowhide. Some of the drums are as old as the group and they have only replaced two over the years. The had moved in 1992. Joanie was always a loving caring person, she loved to work the Union County Life Stock Show and Haines Stampede during the 4th July dealing blackjack like a professional blackjack dealer. But one of Joanie’s favorite times of the year was Halloween and Christ- mas. She would always make her own costumes being very creative, she defi nitely had a talent for that and Christmas every year she would make sure her nieces and nephews always had gifts to make them smile. Those who knew Joanie always knew she was a hard worker and had a good sense of humor. Even growing up her and her twin Jeanie would al- ways have a trick up their sleeves, they were basi- cally the double trouble twins. One thing Joanie’s fam- ily will never forget is how much of a loving mother she was to her daughter Atheena McClaughry and how much she did for her family. She will surely be missed and loved. Her smile and laugh will always be in our hearts everywhere we go and she was defi nitely loved by many and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents Wil- liam Thomas McClaughry and Virginia Aue and her brother David McCaughry formally of North Powder, Oregon passed in 1990.
