CONCERT AT THE OREGON TRAIL
INTERPRETIVE CENTER
Trail Tenders is sponsoring a special free evening
concert by western singer and entertainer Mary
Kaye on Friday July 28. The concert starts at 6:30
in the outdoor amphitheater at the National Historic
Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.
Mary Kaye is an award winning western singer
and songwriter. With a mix of traditional and origi-
nal contemporary songs, her family friendly shows
celebrate western heritage and landscapes.
Trail Tenders is hosting the free concert as part
of the Trail Center’s ongoing 25th Anniversary cel-
ebration. They invite everyone to enjoy a relaxing
evening of music and spectacular scenery overlook-
ing the Baker Valley as a thank you to the commu-
nity for 25 years of support.
Mary Kaye will also be performing in the Leo
Adler Theater located inside the Interpretive Center
on Saturday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m., 12:30 and 2:00
p.m.
NORTH POWDER HUCKLEBERRY
FESTIVAL
July 29, 2017. City of North Powder Fun day. Car
show, vendors, games, food, music in the park. All

THE ALIBIS CONCERT
The Alibis Band will be preforming live at Powder
River Music Review in Powder River Pavilion
July 30, Sunday 4 to 6 p.m. at Geiser Pollman Park
in Baker City Oregon. Classic boomer rock/blues
featuring band members Tim Hines, Jerry Smith,
Janis Carper, Tim Erickson. Another event brought
to you by non-profit group Baker City Events.
COMMUNITY NIGHT OUT
August 1, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. This annual event
provides an opportunity for families to join together
for an evening of fun, food and entertainment at the
Geiser-Pollman Park. Free hamburger, pop, chips
and fruit. Live music by Frank Carlson, Vendor
booths - some free - some with items for sale - free
raffle entry to win prizes. Community service agen-
cies will be available with information of help for
those in need. Donations are accepted to help fund
future events.
PANFISH TOURNAMENT
The 15th Annual Panfish Tournament will be held
Sunday, August 20 at 5:30 a.m. at Hewlett Park in
Richland.
ECLIPSE CHRISTIAN CONCERT
August 19, doors open at 6 p.m. Two pop rock
Christian bands coming from Boise for one night to

Klamath Falls, Oregon,
Shad, Megan and Kay-
dence Thomas lovingly
welcomed Dylan into this
world.
Dylan completed first
grade at Brooklyn El-
ementary in Baker City,
Oregon and made quite an
impression on his teacher,
Stephanie Mays who he
called “My Sunshine”. He
brought love and happiness
to every single person he
met.
Dylan loved camping,
hunting with his dad,
fishing, riding his bike,
nerf gun wars and making
people smile.
He leaves behind his
parents Megan (Louie)
Thomas of Baker City,
Shad Thomas of Burns,
Oregon; his stepmother
Karrie Thomas of Burns,
Oregon; and his big sister
Kaydence Thomas also of
Baker City, Oregon. Dylan
also leaves behind many
loving family members

88, a long time Baker City
resident and currently of
Donnelly, Idaho, passed
away on July 18, 2017 at
St. Lukes Regional Medi-
cal Center in Boise, Idaho.
A viewing will be held on
Friday, July 28, 2017 from
2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. PST
at Gray’s West & Co. Pio-
neer Chapel. A graveside
service will be held on
Saturday, July 29, 2017 be-
ginning at 1:00 p.m. at Mt.
Hope Cemetery with Pas-

Baker High
Schools and then married
Orval Jackson Givens on
August 19, 1947 in Baker
City, Oregon. Orval and
Vinnie were married for 38
years and 11 months before
his passing in 1986. During
their marriage they had six
wonderful children; Orval,
Evelyn, Barbara, Bruce,
Frances, and Clara.
Vinnie was first and
foremost a loving and car-
ing wife and mother. She
played the violin in her
youth and instilled in her
children a love of music.
She met her husband play-
ing in a band at a local
dance in Baker City. She
could hunt and fish with
the best of them. Home-
made bread hot and fresh
from the oven was often
an after school treat for her
children. Her first career
was a mom. She did not
enter the workforce until
her youngest child was in
school, working for the
city of Baker in the payroll
office. A skilled seam-
stress, she created beautiful
quilts for each of her chil-
dren, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Her
latest pastime was Tea and
Crumpets each afternoon.
She will be missed by all
who were blessed with
knowing her.
She is survived by her
son Orval Dale Givens and
wife Suzanne of Hunts-
ville, Alabama, her daugh-
ter Evelyn Ann Jackson
and husband Terrance of
Boise, Idaho, her daughter
Barbara Joyce Sivey and
husband Gail of Don-
nelly, Idaho, her son Bruce
Wayne Givens of Baker
City, Oregon, her daughter
Frances Elaine Givens of
Clarkston, Washington and
her daughter Clara Jean
Knox and husband Robert
of Baker City, Oregon.
Vinnie is also survived by
14 grandchildren and 20
great-grandchildren.
Vinnie is preceded in
death by her parents; two
brothers Alfred Westly
Goff and Joe Leo Goff;
three sisters Irene May
Watson, Hazel Belle Mas-
ters, and Virginia Ream
Goff; and two granddaugh-
ters Kay Lynn Jackson and
Jennifer Lea Scott.
