LINEMAN FILM TO SHOW AT LIBRARY
In honor of National Lineman Appreciation Day,
a newly released fi lm on DVD starring John Travol-
ta as an electrical lineman will be shown at Baker
County Public Library on Friday, April 7 2017 at
6:00 p.m. Linemen are the brave men and women
who protect public safety by constructing and main-
taining electric power transmission and distribution
facilities. Utility line work is in the top 10 of the
most dangerous jobs in America. With successive
wildfi res and extreme winter weather of recent
seasons, our local linemen have had extraordinary
situations to deal with. Help show your gratitude
for the risky work they do to keep our power sup-
plied by attending this event. Admission is free and
complimentary refreshments will be provided.
Note, this fi lm has been Rated R by the MPAA.
SPRING BAZAAR
The seniors at Community Connection will have
their 22nd Annual Spring Bazaar on Saturday,
April 8th, 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Community Con-
nection, 2810 Cedar Street, Baker City. Vendor
tables are now available to rent, for displaying their
handcraft, gift, food, and collectible items. Accord-
ing to Mary Jo Carpenter, chairman of the Bazaar,
there will be a luncheon served from noon to 1:00
p.m., for a minimal charge. The proceeds from the
bazaar will go to the senior nutrition program, and
is a part of the regular fundraising activities of the
Baker Seniors, who raise an average of $8,000 per
year to support senior programs. For more informa-

tion at 523-6591.
EASTER EGG HUNT
April 15 in the Geiser Pollman Park. Annual
Easter Egg Hunt for children age 3 through age 11.
Line up at 9:45 Saturday at Geiser-Pollman Park
by age group. The police siren will sound promptly
at 10 a.m. to indicate beginning of hunt scramble.
Filled plastic eggs, toys and candy will be in roped
off areas divided by age category. Call 541-519-

at Mt. Hope Cemetery in
Baker City.
Dale was born on Oc-
tober 13, 1932 in Erick,
Oklahoma. He was raised
and educated in Erick,
graduating from high
school in 1952. Dale and
Billie were married in
1956 and had two children
Stephen and Stephanie.
Dale served in the Army
from 1953 to 1955, ris-
ing to the rank of Staff
Sergeant.
During his life he was
a teacher and coach. He
taught and coached at
Woodward (Oklahoma)
High School for four years,
Buhl ((Idaho) High School
for three years, and Baker
High School for 27 years.
Dale is survived by his
wife Billie, son Stephen of
Fairfax Station, Virginia;
daughter Stephanie of
Raleigh, North Carolina;
six grandchildren and
three great grandchildren;
brother Curtis Austin and
sister Sherry Lujan.

2017 at his home on Mc
Fadden Lane in Halfway,
Oregon surrounded by his
loving family. Hank was
born December 11, 1929 at
Garden Grove, California
to Asher and Mary Harris,
the second of fi ve sons.
He graduated from Bar-
stow High School in 1947.
In 1952, he enlisted in the
Navy and he trained to be
an aviation machinist and
spent time serving in the
Korean War in Texas and
Hawaii.
He met his beloved Carol
Davidson in 1956 and they
wed on August 25, 1957 in
Lovelock, Nevada. Their
married journey took them
through 59 years together,
raising their four children,
Hugh, Joann, Mary and
Kathy. They moved from
Lovelock, Nevada to
Halfway in 1960 and Hank
began a life long love of
farming, milking cows,
raising beef, beautiful
horses, mules, draft horses,
not to mention cow dogs.
He was a man of great
strength in all aspects
of his life, spiritually,
mentally, and physically.
If he loved something, he
put his whole heart into,
whether it was his family,
ranching, rodeo, roping,
riding, or enjoying the
beauty of the surrounding
mountains, that he went to
often.
He enjoyed hunting in
his earlier years and watch-
ing wildlife later. His
whole heart was his wife,
children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren
and they knew they were
loved beyond words.
He said he had a wonder-
ful life, knew he was born
to do what he did, and was
so blessed to live in beauti-
ful Pine Valley.
He had very fi ne friends
that he loved and enjoyed.
He worked hard and loved
harder. As Carol put it,
“Henry was his own man.”
Hank was preceded in
death by his parents, and
three of his brothers,
Byron, Ernest and Gerald
Harris and many dear
friends. He is survived
by his wife Carol. His
brother Donald Harris.
His son, Hugh (Laura)
and his family, Cornti &
Brad. His daughter, Joann
(Dusty) and her family,
Ashli, Kaylei Jo, Trace,
Carol, (Jake) & Tanalee.
His daughter, Mary (Brent)
and her family Bobbi
Jo, (Dan), Emory Grace,
Mitchell, (Skye), Dotti
Rose, & Henry Mitchell
(on the way). His daugh-
ter Kathy (Wade) and her
family Chris, (Megan),
Emberlynn, Adelaide,
Chelsea, (Josh), Jackson,
and Maxwell. Also, many
neices and nephews that he
treasured.
In honor of Hank’s

Paul Scott

Paul Scott, 78, of Baker
City, Oregon passed away
at his home in Beehive
Homes on March 16, 2017.
A celebration of life will
be held at a later date.
Paul Raymond Scott was
born on July 7, 1938 to
Earl and Georgia (Jarmin)
Scott at the family home
in Haines, Oregon. The
youngest of
two boys,
Paul and
his brother
David
grew up in
Haines and
Paul
attended
Scott
school in
Muddy
Creek, Haines, and Baker
City.
Paul joined the Navy in
1955 and was stationed in
San Diego and Japan. He
was honorably discharged
from the Navy in July
of 1959. Paul married
the love of his life, Betty
Francis Chandler on Feb-
ruary 6, 1960. They lived
in Baker City and Provo,
Utah before settling in
Haines with their family.
Paul worked locally in log-
ging and construction and
he also worked for Bechtel
Corp. in Indonesia prior to
working for and retiring
from Sackos Excavating as
an equipment operator.
Paul and Betty raised
two sons, Jim and Joe,
and he enjoyed hunting,
fi shing, camping, snow-
mobiling, and family time
together. Paul collected
and restored tractors and
motors, and enjoyed tin-
kering in his shop that he
built with his son Joe.
Paul is survived by his
son Jim and his wife Judy
of Haines, Oregon, son Joe
and his wife Noel of Baker
City, grandson Justin
(Jim), granddaughter Riana
(Joe), and two great-grand-
children.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, his
brother David, his wife
Betty, and his granddaugh-
ter Jennifer (Jim).
