OSAA STATE BASKETBALL
TOURNAMENT

ACADEMIC PLANNING NIGHT
Baker High School will be hosting an Academic
Planning Night on Monday, March 6th at 7 p.m.
The purpose of the evening is to provide guid-
ance to parents and students prior to selecting
courses for next year. We will begin with a short
presentation in the auditorium where we will be
covering information on scheduling and gradua-
tion requirements. Afterwards, families will have
the opportunity to talk to teachers about their
programs of study. Please plan on joining us next
Monday night.
EASTERN OREGON REGIONAL
THEATER APPRECIATION GALA
March 10-11, The Eastern Oregon Regional
Theatre will present its 3rd Annual Apprecia-
tion Gala. The shows on Friday, the 10th and
Saturday, the 11th will be at 7 p.m. and the show
on Sunday, the 12th will be at 3 p.m. The Gala
is not just for theatre members and advertisers.
Everyone is invited to attend. Also there will
be complimentary refreshments and beverages.
Members and advertisers will be admitted for
free while tickets for the general public are $10.
Those people who wish to buy a membership at
any of the three shows may attend for free. Tick-
ets are available at Betty’s Books and at the door.
The shows will be presented in the Iron Gate
Theatre, upstairs in the Basche Sage Mall, on the
corner of Main and Broadway in Baker City. An
elevator will be available for those who do not
wish to climb the stairs.
HALFWAY CRAB FEED

SPRING BAZAAR
The seniors at Community Connection will
have their 22nd Annual Spring Bazaar on Satur-
day, April 8th, 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Community
Connection, 2810 Cedar Street, Baker City. Ven-
dor tables are now available to rent, for displaying
their handcraft, gift, food, and collectible items.
According to Mary Jo Carpenter, chairman of the
Bazaar, there will be a luncheon served from noon
to 1:00 p.m., for a minimal charge. The proceeds
from the bazaar will go to the senior nutrition pro-
gram, and is a part of the regular fundraising ac-
tivities of the Baker Seniors, who raise an average
of $8,000 per year to support senior programs.

EASTER EGG HUNT
April 15 in the Geiser Pollman Park. Annual
Easter Egg Hunt for children age 3 through age
11. Line up at 9:45 Saturday at Geiser-Pollman
Park by age group. The police siren will sound
promptly at 10 a.m. to indicate beginning of hunt
scramble. Filled plastic eggs, toys and candy will
be in roped off areas divided by age category. Call

Betty was born to parents
Doris and W.C.Wigley in
Fountain Hill, Arkansas
on August 27, 1936. She
moved from Arkansas to
Crescent City, California in
1954 where she lived until
2004 when she moved to
Huntington, Oregon.
In 1954 she married her
childhood sweetheart,
Haskell Barnett. They were
married 46 years until his
death in 2000. She worked
as an account clerk for
Westbrooks for 23 years.
Her hobbies included fi sh-
ing, hunting, canning and
baking. She was a member
of the Huntington Chris-
tian Center and a volunteer
at the Huntington Food
Bank.
Betty is survived by
her daughters Doris and
her husband Ken Gaines,
Nancy Brouillard; son
Larry and his wife Kim
Barnett; brothers, Bill,
Ben and Bob Wigley; 11
grandchildren and 30 great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her husband
Haskell Barnett; both par-
ents; brother Bruce Wigley,
and son-in-law Louie
Brouillard.

Partridge Ghrist Ellison
entered into rest February
16, 2017 at St. Alphonsus
Medical Center in Baker
City, Oregon at the age of
94 with her family by her
side. Services will be an-
nounced at a later date.
On November 13, 1922
Gwendolyn Janette Par-
tridge was born to James
G. Partridge and Lillian F.
(Binns) Partridge in Black
Diamond, Washington.
With her parents, a sister
and a brother Gwen moved
from Yakima, Washing-
ton to Redondo Beach,
California in 1927. She at-
tended schools in Redondo
Beach and graduated from
RUHS in 1940.
During the summer of
1940 she visited her sister
and family in Eastern
Oregon, where she met and
later married her future
husband Samuel Ghrist.
To honor this union,
three children were born;
Richard Samuel, Larry
Donald, and Linda Darlene
(Mrs. John Chandler). The
next 25 years were spent
in Eastern Oregon where
farming, sawmilling and
logging were their busi-
ness.
Gwen lost her husband
Samuel in a tragic logging
accident in 1965, and after
selling her farm in Rich-
land, Oregon she moved to
Baker City, Oregon which
became her home for the
next seven years. During
this time, she met Dale
Ellison and they were mar-
ried in 1972.
She was an avid grange
member at the Eagle Val-
ley Grange in Richland,
Oregon and maintained her
membership for 25 years.
Gwen served as the secre-
tary for fi ve years as well
as holding several other
offi ces during her time as a
member.
After her marriage to
Dale they moved to fol-
low his construction job
to Southern, California,
Wyoming, and Medford,
Oregon among other
places, fi nally settling in
Redding, California where
Dale died in 1998. Gwen
moved to Baker City,
Oregon in 2007.
Gwen was
active in
bowling, a
member of
the WIBC
and Shasta
Lanes Senior
Gwen
Leagues; she
Ellison
was also a
member of
the Redding International
Y’s Men’s Association.
In her spare time, Gwen
enjoyed knitting, crochet-
ing, reading and playing
cards. Gwen also loved
yard work and tending to
her fl owers. Our mom
and grandmother was truly
loved and will be terribly
missed by her family and
friends.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, her
husband Samuel Ghrist,
husband Dale Ellison, a
sister, a brother, two grand-
children, and a daughter in
law Karen Ghrist, a niece,
a nephew and one step-
son.
Gwen leaves behind her
two sons Richard Ghrist
of Baker City, Oregon and
Larry Ghrist (Bonnie) of
Medford, Oregon; daugh-
ter Linda Chandler (John)
of Baker City, Oregon;
seven grandchildren
Brenda (Ghrist) Kuwahara,
Walt Ghrist, Doug Ghrist,
Sam Ghrist, Susan (Ghrist)
Allen, Lloyd Chandler and
Phil Chandler. She is also
survived by fi ve stepchil-
dren Jacquelyn DeSoto,
Lila Garrett and Sherrie
Marshall all of Medford,
Oregon, Doug Ellison of
Alaska, and Jeff Ellison
of Washington; nine step
grandchildren, numerous
great grandchildren, great-
great grandchildren, nieces
and nephews along with
many friends.

Chris was born in Prairie
City, OR on September 29,
1959 to Glen and Carita
(Madsen) Dodson. The
family moved to Ontario,
OR where he graduated
from Ontario High School
in 1977.
On July 3, 1982, Chris
married Pam Norton in
Reno, Nevada and together
they had two children,
Dustin and Jennifer. Chris
worked in tire sales and
service as a retreader for
Roy & Owens Tire Service
for 32 years.
He was a member of On-
tario Elk Lodge #1690 for
35 years. He enjoyed
hunting, fi shing, gun
smithing and quilting.
Hunting and reloading his
own bullets were things he
loved to do. Thanks to his
friend Rich Rowe, Chris
was able to go on his fi nal
elk hunting trip last year.
He leaves behind his
wife, Pam Dodson of Bak-
er City, son Dustin Dodson
of Baker City, parents,
Glen and Carita Dodson
of Ontario, brother, Ray
Dodson and his wife, Jan

NW Farm Credit reports earnings
Northwest Farm Credit
Services, the Northwest’s
leading fi nancial coopera-
tive supporting agricul-
ture, forestry, fi sheries and
rural communities, an-
nounced 2016 earnings of
$247.2 million, compared
to $255.6 million in 2015.
The higher earnings
in 2015 was the result of
larger credit loss reversals
in that year.
Total capital increased
7.2 percent during the year
to $2.2 billion.
“Despite the downturn
in price and demand for
some agricultural com-
modities, 2016 turned out
to be another year of solid
fi nancial performance for
our collective customer
base,” said President and
CEO Phil DiPofi .
