OTEC Youth Tour and
scholarship apps out
It is that time of year
again when Oregon Trail
Electric Cooperative
(OTEC) begins to seek
scholarship and Wash-
ington D.C. Youth Tour
applicants within our four
county service territory of
Baker, Harney, Grant and
Union counties. These are
two great opportunities for
our local students.
OTEC Scholarships
Starting November 1, high
school students, return-
ing students, and adults
entering educational and
technical programs can
apply for OTEC’s an-
nual scholarship program.
OTEC will award a total
of 28 scholarships: two
linemen scholarships and
26 academic scholar-
ships. Each scholarship is
$5,000 and eight of the 26
academic scholarships are
earmarked for returning
college students.
Washington D.C. Youth
Tour
Starting November
7, current high school
students in their junior year
can apply for a one-week,
all-expenses-paid trip
to Washington, D.C. to
celebrate the 2017 Rural
Electric Cooperative Youth
Tour. The trip will be held
from June 9 – June 15,
2017.
Bebe’s word search
To apply, students can
visit their local OTEC of-
fi ce after November 1 – or
go to http://www.otecc.
com/community/com-
munity to download the
applications.
The deadline is 5 p.m.
on January 13, 2017.
Scholarship and Youth
Tour recipients will be
notifi ed mid-April, 2017.
Funding for OTEC
scholarships and the
Washington D.C. Youth
Tour come from unclaimed
capital credits and their
earnings. They do not af-
fect electric rates.
Possible delays on 395
Travelers along U.S.
Highway 395 in the Herm-
iston area may experience
some traffi c delays over
the next couple weeks as
contractors work to address
The
minor issues with their
pavement resurfacing proj-
ect that was constructed
earlier this year. Sections
of pavement around some
man-holes and in-street
valves between SW 4th
Street and Theater Lane
will be adjusted to create
a smoother ride. About
a mile south of U.S. 730
work will also occur.
