TASTE OF BAKER
Saturday, October 8, 4-7 p.m. The Taste of Baker
is a showcase for all of Baker City’s fi ne restaurants
and foodies. The menu items range from $1 to $5,
and there are over two dozen vendors participating.
Tokens will be on sale starting at 2 p.m. on Main
Street. Menus and maps are available at the token
tables, located outside The Little Bagel Shop, Gla-
cier 45, US Bank, Earth & Vine, and Charlie’s Deli
and Ice Cream, along with ballots to vote for you
favorite scarecrow. If you have questions, contact

DUTCH OVEN COOKOFF
Saturday, October 8, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 2nd Annual
Cast Iron Chef: Dutch Oven Cook-off at the Na-
tional Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. If
you enjoy cooking in the outdoors, join us for a fun
team competition celebrating traditional open air
cooking and locally harvested ingredients. Take part
in our annual Dutch oven cook-off “with a twist!”
COMMUNITY CONNECTION BBQ
FUNDRAISER
Friday, October 14, 5 p.m. Community Connec-
tion is having its annual BBQ rib dinner and silent
auction to raise funds to support the dinning center
and Meals-on-Wheels program. They need to raise
an addition $3000 this year to keep the program
going as it currently is. The auction will be from
5-6:30 p.m. with dinner served from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $13 for pre-purchase or $10 for children
under 12, $15 at the door.

EAGLE VALLEY FALL FESTIVAL
Sunday, October 30. The last Sunday in Oc-
tober the 7th Annual Eagle Valley Grange Fall
Festival will take place. Activities will kick off at
4 p.m. and at 5 p.m. the potluck will start. There
will be kids’ games, cake walks, Trunk-or-Treat,
costume contest, and all manner of fun, including,
a raffl e,Tractor Parade. For anyone interested in
showing off a vintage piece of farming equipment
or something new for that matter, this is your oppor-
tunity to share your favorite farm machine with the
community. Costumes are strongly encouraged, and
those of you that are attending are asked to remem-
ber that this is a family friendly festival. festival
organizers ask that there be no gruesome or other
inappropriate costumes. Prizes will be awarded in
numerous categories, including adults. The popular
Trunk-or-Treat will be back this year, with par-
ticipants invited to dress up their vehicles, and the
trick-or-treats will come to you. For more infor-

HISTORIC HOMES TOUR
Saturday, December 10, 1-5 p.m. Included in this
year’s tour are several homes, and other historically
signifi cant or architecturally important buildings.
The emphasis of the tour is on the fancy parlor
where historically families always displayed their
most extravagant holiday decorations to impress
the neighbors walking by. This is a self-guided
tour. The tour starts at the Baker Heritage Museum
which will open at 10 a.m. for those wishing to
view the exhibits.

Rosalie will be on Friday
September 23, 2016 at
10:00 a.m. at Gray’s West
& Co. Pioneer Chapel with
Pastor Brad Phillips of the
Harvest Church offi ciating.
A procession will lead
family and friends to Mt.
Hope Cemetery for the
interment following the
service.
Rosalie or Rose, as most
knew her, was born on
July 14, 1956 in Oregon
City, Oregon to Marjorie
(Brandli) Kofstad and
Harvey Kofstad.
She graduated high
school at the Oregon City
High School.
On April 6, 1976 Rose
and David Eugene Scott
were joined in marriage
in Oregon City, Oregon.
They were married for 35
years before David’s pass-
ing in 2011.
Before retiring in 2004,
Rose worked as a CNA at
St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for
20 years. When she was
not working she enjoyed
boating, fi shing, camping,
hunting, and was affi liated
with the Assembly of God
Church.
Rose had many accom-
plishments during her life,
but the one she was proud-
est of and most appreci-
ated for was her ability
and willingness to always
be a wonderful mother,
grandmother, and wife
who taught her children
and grandchildren, through
example, how to love and
give freely.
She is survived by her
daughter Theresa Mag-
nifi co of Meridian, Idaho;
step-daughter Rose Ewing
of Seal Rock, Oregon;
step-sons John Scott of To-
ledo, Oregon, Huey Woo-
drum of Eugene, Oregon,
Dan Scott of Middleton,
Idaho, and John Shock-
ley of Silverton, Oregon.
Rose is also survived by
29 grandchildren and 22
great-grandchildren.
Rose is preceded in death
by her parents Marjorie
and Harvey Kofstad, her
husband David E. Scott
and her son Joshua D.
Scott.

home in Middleton,
Idaho, on September 19,
2016, at the age of 86.
A Graveside Service
with Military Honors was
held on Monday, Septem-
ber 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
at Eagle Valley Cemetery
in Richland, Oregon.
Robert was born on
January 15, 1930, to Paril
“Patrick” Vernon and Nina
(Bruneau) Lattin in Elma,
Washington.
He was raised in Elma,
attended White Star
elementary school, and
graduated from Elma High
School in 1948 where
he played on the football
team.
He subsequently served
two years in the U.S.
Army, including one year
stationed in post-war Ger-
many where he worked in
the signal corps installing
telephone and communica-
tion lines.
Upon his honorable
discharge from the service,
he returned to Elma where
he worked many years as
a lineman for West Coast
Telephone Co. in both
Elma and Montesano, and
where he helped over-
see the transition from
operator-only calls to dial
telephones. He was also
the president of the Elma
Eagles in the 1960s.
On February 21 1954,
he married Lillian Sarff,
whom had son Dan. They
had four children, twins
Patrick and Robin, daugh-
ter, Julie, and son, Michael.
In 1969 when another
company purchased West
Coast Telephone Co.,
Robert moved his family to
Sandpoint, Idaho where he
worked for General Tele-
phone Company., subse-
quently moving to Halsey,
Oregon where he man-
aged a privately-owned
telephone company and
in 1973 he purchased the
Eagle Telephone System
Company in Richland,
Oregon.
He built the small
company into a series of
companies, always keeping
up with the latest telecom-
munications technology,
which included a cable
TV company, a cell-phone
company, and a construc-
tion company, becoming
the largest employer in
Richland.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, two sisters,
Patti and Becky, a brother,
Randy, granddaughter
Gienel and a great grand-
son Cody.
Bob is survived by his
wife of 62 years, Lillian of
Baker City, OR, his sister,
Beverly, of Auburn, WA,
and his fi ve children, Dan
Cornell of Hugo, MN,
Patrick(Kathy)of Richland,
Robin(Doug) Schrade
of Middleton, ID, Julie
Daly of Baker City and
Michael(Rusti) Lattin of
Richland, six grandchil-
dren and three great-grand-
children.
He loved to fi sh, and in
his retirement he spent
many vacations fi shing
with his daughter, Robin,
and her husband, Doug.
He spent many enjoy-
able times in the Wallowa
Mountains, at the family
cabin, and in 1997 he took
the trip of his dreams,
driving to Alaska with his
brother-in-law, Charles
Potts of Seattle.
Bob served as an EMT
with Eagle Valley Ambu-
lance in Richland and was
a member of the Lions
Club.
He will be dearly missed
as a husband, father, grand-
pa and friend to many.
For those who would like
