Sergeant Chastain and Capa thank Ms. Stewart and New Hope for their generous donation.
Mr. Dick Haines and
Ms. Judy Stewart, repre-
senting the New Hope for
Eastern Oregon Animals,
donated a check this sum-
mer in the amount of $100
to the City of Baker City
Police Department’s canine
program for the purpose of
replacing the old dog har-
nesses used by canine
Turbo with new modern
dog harnesses for canine
Capa.
At times, harnesses in
drug detection canine work
are preferred over collars
because they take pres-
sure off the dog’s neck,
allow different points of
contact to prevent pull-
ing as pulling encourages
the dog to be off balance,
positions the dog more
naturally at the handler’s
side, gives better infl uence
and communication from
the handler to the dog, and
provides better comfort for
the dog. Lastly, harnesses
provide a means to read-
ily identify the dog as a
police canine to the general
public.
Donations such as
the one made by New
Hope for Eastern Oregon
Animals are necessary for
the continued success of
our canine program as the
program is funded solely
from donations such as
those made by New Hope.
Funds are used to maintain
the canine’s equipment and
pay for medical and food
costs associated with the
canine.
This donation will be
used to purchase one new
modern dog harnesses for
canine Capa.
