Lorraine Wells
Sumpter, 1934-2016
Lorraine
Wells, 82,
died on June
1, 2016 at her
residence in
Sumpter, Or-
egon. There
will not be a
Lorraine
service.
Wells
Lorraine
Eloise was
born on March 27, 1934 to
Paul and Georgia (McGee)
Maxim in Redding Cali-
fornia. In 1954, Lorraine
married William “Bill”
Ward Wells in Anderson,
California. They had two
children Geoff and Sydney.
During her early life as
a young adult in Redding
California, Lorraine was
a lifeguard at the local
Municipal Swimming Pool
in the summer and a skier
with the Mountain Rescue
Team during the winter.
She was also an expert
horsewoman and trained
horses for many years.
Lorraine and her
husband Bill lived in New
York City, Atlanta, Port-
land and Maui. While liv-
ing on the island of Maui,
Lorraine became a realtor
and had a successful real
estate career selling mil-
lion dollar homes before
moving to Sumpter in the
1990s. She became a bro-
ker in Sumpter and opened
her own real estate office,
Sumpter Valley Real
Estate. Lorraine was an ex-
pert in sheep raising, wool
spinning and weaving and
loved sharing her knowl-
edge with others. Lorraine
was nearly deaf for most of
her life, but she learned to
read lips and with the help
of hearing aids was able to
function well.
Lorraine was very gen-
erous and would give her
last dollar away without
a thought if she thought
someone needed it. She
always had faith that God
would provide and look
out for her.
She was preceded in
death by her husband Bill

Charlene Dora
Thompson Gordon
Baker City, 1942-2016
Charlene Dora Thomp-
son Gordon of Baker City
and longtime resident
of Eastern Oregon, died
peacefully in her residence
at Settler’s Park Assisted
Living, Sunday, July 10,
2016, surrounded by her
family and friends after a
25 year long battle with
Parkinson’s disease.
A Memorial Service will
be held at the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane
in Baker City on Friday,
July 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
with a luncheon to follow.
Charlene was born
August 2, 1942 in Jackson-
ville, Illinois, to Trevor and
Charlotte Thompson. Char-
lene was the third oldest of
nine children. She gradu-
ated from Cottage Grove
High School in 1959.
In 1960 Charlene gave
birth to a son Kenneth
Trevor. December 16,
1961 Charlene married
Jerry Ralph Gordon to
whom, at the time of her
death, she had been mar-
ried to for 54 years.
During their marriage
Jerry and Charlene had
two children. In 1962
they welcomed a daughter
Debra Marie. Four years
later, Jerry Jr. was wel-
comed into the family.
Charlene loved the
outdoors including hunting
and fishing.
When the op-
portunity pre-
sented itself
you could
often find her
fishing for
Salmon with
Charlene
Jerry and
Gordon
other friends
and family
along the North Jetty at
the mouth of the Columbia
River.
This particular location
on the Washington Coast
held many special memo-
ries for Charlene, as she
spent many vacations there
with friends and family,
including her children and
grandchildren.
Anyone who had the
pleasure of meeting Char-
lene knew that she had
the best sense of humor
and while Charlene was
known by some to be a
proper lady who would
never dream of using a
foul word or muttering
anything deemed inap-
propriate, those who knew
her best knew would say
that she could swear like a
sailor and tell the dirtiest
of jokes.
However, if anyone
would point out either of
these things, she would
admittedly deny that it had
happened.
More than being witty,
Charlene held a multitude
of talents including a green
thumb that allowed her to
grow just about anything
she put her mind to.
It was well known that
she always had the most
beautiful garden and flower
beds on the block.
Baking and cooking in
general, was a special gift
possessed by Charlene.
She spent many years mak-
ing beautiful cakes of all
shapes and sizes, including
wedding cakes for a num-
ber of family weddings
and numerous other special
occasion cakes.
Charlene was also
praised for her homemade
pizza’s that she made from
scratch as well as other
goodies she always made
up for those she loved.
Charlene will be re-
membered as someone
that could always make
people laugh and who had
a loving heart that touched
everyone around her.
Charlene was preceded
in death by her parents
Trevor and Charlotte
Thompson.
Charlene is survived
by her siblings; Treva,
Terrence, Benita, Linda,
Jonetta, Denise, Penny
and Brent. Her children:

grandchildren; Shannon,

family members.
