Billy Neil McCauley
Baker City, 1941-2016
Billy Neil McCauley
passed away Monday June
6th at the age of 74 years
old. He was the son of Neil
and Nettie McCauley, born
September 14, 1941 in
Hamilton Missouri. After
the family left Missouri
they spent a short time in
Wenatchee, WA before
moving to Baker. Bill
spent most of his child-
hood in Baker, graduating
from Baker High School
in 1959.
After graduation Bill
joined the Army National
Guard and married his
wife of 54 years, Mardell
Sheppard, on January 12th
1962. Bill and Mardell
started their family in
1963. Bill worked two
jobs to support his young
family. He worked for the
City of Baker as a heavy
equipment operator, and
in the evenings he was a
linotype operator for the
local newspaper. As his
family grew, Bill supported
his three boys in all of
their athletic
events and
volunteered
countless
hours with
the Baker
Wrestling
Program,
Billy
Little League
McCauley
Baseball,
and Babe
Ruth Baseball. He never
missed a sporting event of
his son’s or grandchildren,
and always had words of
encouragement for every-
one involved. It wasn’t
uncommon for Bill to load
up the pickup camper on
Friday, fi ll it with whoever
needed a ride, and head
to a sporting event for the
weekend.
Bill was known as a
kind and generous man
who was always willing
to lend a helping hand.
He had a great sense of
humor, always had a smile
on his face, and had many
random sayings he shared
with friends and strangers.
If you walked by “Hank’s
Hamburger Stand” at the
ballpark you always had to
purchase a burger because,
“It would put hair on your
chest!”
He enjoyed hunting
upland game birds, fi sh-
ing, and camping with his
family.
He leaves behind his
wife, Mardell McCauley;
three sons and their wifes;
Doug and Treasa McCau-
ley, Alan and Michele Mc-
Cauley, Travis and Darcy
McCauley.
