The Elkhorn Grange
held their annual Cowboy
Breakfast to begin the
4th of July celebration in
Haines.
This year, they served
nearly 400 people and
had 15 volunteers to help
serve the pancake break-
fast. In the past, this event
has served nearly 600
people. It is their biggest
fundraiser of the year; the
second is the Fall Festival
in October.

nual breakfast of pancakes,
eggs, meat and refresh-
ments.
Illingsworth explained
that the Sumpter Junction
restaurant had offered to
donate food for the event.
However, she was unable
to contact the restaurant for
this year’s breakfast, but
will do so for next year.
“This is probably the 38th
or 40th one we’ve done,”
stated Joanne Illingsworth,
a member of the Elkhorn
Grange and organizer of
the breakfast. “Not mine,
I’ve only done about
seven.”
Illingsworth has been
a member of the Elkhorn
Grange for seven years and
was put in charge of the
breakfast after joining.
“The Grange has been
here since 1948,” said Ill-
ingsworth. “It was actually
a school house out in the
old Baltic Slou and they
moved it here and they’ve
been doing breakfasts
every year and now it’s a
school again.”
The Grange is now the
school and church for the
Black Cap Mennonites.
