JASON LEE - TRUE FATHER
OF OREGON TOUR
Friday, June 3, 7 p.m. Seven years ago Aaron
Auer and John Sutton posing as Jason Lee and John
McLoughlin toured all 36 counties of Oregon re-
counting Oregon’s spiritual roots through the eyes
of Jason Lee who was Oregon’s fi rst circuit riding
preacher and was instrumental in the establishment
of Oregon as a state. Now Aaron is touring the
state once more seven years to the day and will be
in Baker City this coming Friday, meeting at the
Agape Church, 650 Highway 7, at 7 p.m.
RICHLAND - PANFISH TOURNAMENT
Saturday, June 4. Again this year we will offer
four divisions of fi shing opportunities: Adult and
Kids Boat & Adult and Kids Shoreline (Shoreline
fi shing is within the Hewitt- Holcomb parks shore-
line area only, explained at registration) Registra-
tion and Fish Check in will be at the registration
table located at Hewitt Park Registration and Par-
ticipant Check in starts at 5:30 a.m. on June 4th. All
participates pre-registered or those registering the
morning of the 4th may start fi shing after checking
in. All buckets and live wells must be checked by
a tournament offi cial before fi shing begins. All fi sh
must be presented to a tournament offi cial at the
registration table by 5 p.m. June 4th.
BHS GRADUATION
Baker High School graduation will be held Sun-
day, June 5, 2 p.m. at the stadium.
BAKER VALLEY SWCD MEETING
The Baker Valley Soil and Water Conservation
District will be having their monthly meeting on
June 9th at noon at the USDA Service Center at
3990 Midway Drive in Baker City. The public is
welcome, and meals will be available for those who

EAGLE VALLEY DAYS
Eagle Valley Days will be Saturday, June 18.
The event will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. in
downtown Richland. Then on to opening ceremo-
nies at the grange park and kids games. There will
be art in the park and there are still vendor spaces
available at $5 per space. Crafty people, antiques,
collectables, shabby chic and other sellable items
can be part of this event by calling 893-6292 to
reserve a space. There will be a pie auction at 1:30
with great prizes. Bring pies to the grange kitchen
by noon. The kitchen will open in the park at 11
a.m. with burgers, hot dogs, nachos and shortcake.
Music and entertainment will begin at 2 p.m. Call

The Keating Soil and Water Conservation District
will be having their monthly meeting on June 21st

Terri was born March

She graduated from Baker
High School and worked at
the Inland Cafe where she
met her husband Donald
William Morris. On April
27, 1981 Bill and Terri
were married and moved
from Baker City shortly
after. Terri had been ill
from childhood through
adulthood and instead of
complaining about feeling
poorly, Terri found ways to
add humor to her illnesses.
She is survived by her

Leo Adler Theater at the
National Historic Oregon
Trail Interpretive Center.
“Time Travels through
the American West,”
features singer/songwriter
Christina Lynn Martin and
Cowboy poet/balladeer
Butch Martin performing
highlights of the criti-
cally acclaimed documen-
tary concert “Romancing
the West” which tours
throughout the US.
Historic documentary
meets live concert perfor-
mance in this unique and
epic time traveling experi-
ence.
“Romancing the West”
has been presented in
many theaters and venues
from Gene Autry Muse-
um’s Wells Fargo Theater
in Los Angeles, Historic
San Juan Capistrano, to
Piper’s Opera House in
Nevada, and Portland
Oregon to name a few.
It is a special honor for
the producers to come to
Baker City at Oregon Trail
Interpretive Center, where
the wagon tracks still mark
the land and where so
much of the history took
place.

the pioneers began their
daunting journey, the pres-
ence of those who came
before us is felt at every
performance.”
This special presentation
takes the audience from
the 1700s through the Civil
War, the turn of the century
to the Golden Age of Hol-
lywood.
The 90-minute show
brings the old west to life
in rare fi lm, historic photos
and video, and memorable
original music taking the
audience through decades
of social and political
change, exploring both the
tragic and the triumphant
episodes of history to cele-
brate the pioneering human
spirit and diverse legacy of
the American West.

Snake River Chinook season
closes below Hells Canyon Dam
The Oregon Department
of Fish and Wildlife today
announced the spring Chi-
nook fi shery on the Snake
River below Hells Canyon
Dam closed at sundown
(8:30 p.m.) Thursday, June
2. The closure is recom-
mended as fi shery manag-
ers estimate the harvest
limit will be reached.
The sudden closure is at-
tributed to high catch rates
during the past few weeks,
combined with a modest
harvest limit for the year.
“During the past two
weeks, salmon fi shing be-
low Hells Canyon Dam has
been excellent”, said Jeff
Yanke, District Fish Biolo-
gist in Enterprise. “Due to
the angling effort from the
holiday weekend, we have
rapidly approached our
harvest limit.”
The closure on the Snake
River is concurrent with
fi shery closures ordered by
the Idaho Department of
Fish and Game at the end
of fi shing on June 2.
