County Commissioner
BY KERRY McQUISTEN
News@TheBakerCountyPress.com
Baker County rancher
Kody Justus announced
today that he will fi le with
the Baker County Clerk by
Friday afternoon for a run
at the open County Com-
missioner seat vacated by
Tim Kerns.
Justus, 44, ranches in the
Baker Valley and Keat-
ing areas with wife Heidi,
daughter Zoey, father Kent,
and other family members.
Heidi Justus is currently
the Baker High School
girls’ JV basketball coach.
The couple has fi ve daugh-
ters: Zoey, Sierra, Charlie,
Sydney and Randee from
their combined families.
“It is my desire to see the
people of Baker County
empowered,” he said. “The
citizens of our county de-
serve a voice and I believe
I can be that voice.”
Justus is currently Vice
Chair of Baker County
Republicans and a member
of the County’s Natural
Resource Advisory Com-
mittee (NRAC).
Key issues of concern
for him, which affect
Baker County, include:
Keeping the roads open on
public lands, transfer of
public lands to local con-
trol and how local control
can mean the fi nancial
stability of Baker County.
Justus believes Baker
County should pass a Sec-
ond Amendment ordinance
to help protect the gun
rights of all Baker County
citizens. He said he also
feels a deep sense of duty
to see County government
managed well.
County Clerk Cindy
Carpenter said that David
Hunsaker, 69, has also
picked up preliminary
paperwork from her offi ce
and stated his intention to
collect signatures and fi le
to run by petition.

Teri Osborne, with husband Nathan, won $100K in
last week’s Powerball drawing.

Teri Osborne of Baker City was one of the Powerball
winners who won big in last week’s well-publicized
lottery drawing, with a possible payout up over a billion
dollars.
As fate and luck would have it, Osborne’s number
choices earned her a cool $100,000, and while there were
other $50,000 winners in the state, she was the only win-
ner to get the Powerplay right—doubling her win.
